Offering both a mid-century and Scandinavian look for your living room is this Donna Wilson Mabel sofa for SCP.
Very well made, the Mabel has a rounded European hardwood frame, jute webbing and hessian straps for support, with a natural covering, four full feather button upholstered cushions and turned legs. The material is a specially commissioned Donna Wilson patterned linen, only available through SCP.
If you happen to have some money to spare and like the idea of spending time in a period house by the sea, you'll probably love this five-bedroom art deco house at South Cliff, Cooden Beach, East Sussex.
A superb 1930s design that's been granted Grade II listing, it offers all the style and all the space – five bedrooms and an extensive garden. Not only that, the path outside leads right to the nearby beach, while a short drive will take you to the De-La-Warr Pavilion in nearby Bexhill. It's art deco heaven.
We're suckers for a stylish desk – and they don't catch the eye more than the Kay + Stemmer Cedric desk.
It's a modern piece, but could easily pass for a mid-century classic, both in looks and craftsmanship. For your money, you get a minimalist design made from solid walnut and featuring subtly rounded edges, two lined drawers and a dark brown leather top.
If you fancy turning your home into a groovy psychedelic throwback, the Verner Panton Ring Lamp is pretty much essential for the job.
It's a modular lighting unit from 1969, designed as part decoration and part lighting effect, ideally used in groups to create a bold psychedelic glow for your wall or ceiling. If you want to see how that can look in practice, check out the Verner Panton site for some eye-burning images.
The Ring Lamp is made of varnished acrylic glass and sheet metal, with a porcelain lamp fixture and three colour options. You can see another one over the page or you can buy one via the link below – not cheap though, with prices around the £670 mark.
We're big fans of Design House Stockholm, including this rather cool Cloud Chair by Lisa Widén.
It's a bit like a Verner Panton rocking chair meeting something more traditionally mid-century, with the soft and fluffy 'cloud' seating positioned on top of black metal support frame. It's even adjustable, should need a little more back support.
Not cheap at 949 Euros, but not bad either for a designer piece. If you want to get a closer look, Design House Stockholm has just opened a concession in the Heals store on Tottenham Court Road – you might find it there.
We've never seen this Office Desk by Joe Colombo previously – but bizarrely, we've spotted two variations online in the last day.
The one above is being sold by a US retailer (Sebastian and Barquet) and shows the 60s-designed desk at its best. It seems to be a designer/illustrator's desk, with the option of a flat top or a more angled working space by adjusting the metal bar on the back of the desk surface. And if you need to store a few things away, there are three drawers not a million miles away from the storage on a Boby trolley (or more recent Spinny trolley).
The cream version above is for sale for a whopping $3,500 (around £2,400) and you can enquire about it here. Alternatively, there's a much cheaper option available right now via eBay. It's a green and white variation with all the same features (as far as we can see), but selling out of Paris for a 'Buy It Now' of £900. If it's in decent condition, that could be a shrewd investment. See over for another image of the desk from the back.
