Guzzini G-Plus espresso coffee machine

Guzzini_coffee

Regular readers will know we're suckers for anything in that distinctly 70s shade of orange, so we're all over the Guzzini G-Plus espresso coffee machine.

Designed by Hiroshi Ono for Guzzini (no strangers to this site either), the curvy G-Plus offers espresso and cappuccino, aided by a pressure of 20 bars, a 1.3-litre removable water tank, dishwasher-safe drawers, grid and spout and a stainless steel cup warmer.

Note that this only makes coffee from Lavazza Blue capsules – if you like the simplicity of those, you can pick up a G-Plus for around £225.

Emory Douglas limited edition Black Panther signed prints

Emory

For the uninitiated, Emory Douglas was an active member of the Black Panther Party, responsible for the design of the movement as ‘Revolutionary Artist’, then Minister of Culture. And his work is currently being celebrated with an exhibition at Manchester’s Urbis – Emory Douglas and The Art of Revolution.

The exhibition highlights Douglas’ work for the party, including posters, cartoons and campaign pamphlets – and if you head down to the Urbis store, you can pick up prints of the man’s work, along with some rather cool Black Panther t-shirts and tote bags (sadly not available to buy online). More information on the Urbis exhibition can be found here.

Cassina Lebeau space age dining table

Lebeau

It screams the early 1970s, but the Cassina Lebeau dining table is actually a fairly modern design.

The work of Patrick Jouin, the table could slip effortlessly onto the set of Space 1999 or any number of vintage sci-fi flicks. And if you’re after that kind of look (but want an alternative to Tulip Table), this could be worth a look. The base is made of stainless steel, with a podium of grey or white plastic supporting a transparent glass top.

Fairly substantial in size with a diameter of 1400mm and indeed substantial in size. Even in the Nest sale, this is priced from £3,456.

Elio Martinelli 1970s Elmetto table lamp

Elmetto

We’ve featured plenty of Elio Martinelli’s lighting designs from the 1960s, but he also produced one or two gems in the 1970s too, including the Elio Martinelli Elmetto table lamp.

Less free-flowing than the famous 60s designs like the Cobra and Serpente, the 1976 Elmetto design still packs those space age looks with its resin structure, swivel reflector and diffused light.

Available in white only, you can pick one up for £138.

It’s another example of affordable retro, with a chrome-plated steel frame brightened up with those coloured wooden balls, creating something that’s both useful and stylish – and without costing a fortune.
