Festival Wallpaper by Mini Moderns – celebrating the 1951 Festival of Britain

Festival

It's quirky, cool and very retro – the newly-launched Festival Wallpaper by Mini Moderns.

This midcentury-inspired wallpaper celebrates the enduring influence of the 1951 Festival of Britain, the post-war exhibition of the new wave of modern British design, which celebrates its 60th Anniversary next year. If you look closely, you'll see highlights of that exhibition – the iconic Skylon, the Dome of Discovery and the Royal Festival Hall, not to mention the Transport Pavilion and The Lion and the Unicorn Pavilion.

The wallpaper comes in 10m x 52cm rolls printed with waterbased inks on paper from sustained forests and in three colour options. Festival is apparently the first design in the new Mini Moderns Day-tripper collection, launching in September 2011, which celebrates aspects of British culture, hobbies and pastimes. See another shot of Festival over the page.

Sign Your Name wallpaper by Mrs Murphy

Mrs murphy

We've already featured Mrs Murphy's fabulous pin-up girl tile stickers, and here's another of her designs with the same 50s rockabilly feel, her Sign Your Name wallpaper.

Inspired by traditional sailor tattoos, the wallpaper is covered with a mix of full and broken heart motifs. Each heart has a scroll for you to add your own name. Mrs Murphy has done some for you already – Elvis is on there for example – but after that it's up to you to personalize it as you want. The hearts are interspersed with images of roses, creating a striking work that's sure to be a conversation piece (or a source of many a broken heart maybe…).

A roll costs 2600 SEK which works out at roughly £240.

Red Cornishware from T.G. Green

Cornish please
Cornishware is instantly recognisable with its blue and white stripes. In a twist on the look, T.G. Green have resurrected the 'lost' Cornishware Red range from the 1950s and are putting it back in our kitchens.

As part of their long history manufacturing Cornishware, T.G. Green experimented with creating red Cornishware in the 1950s but abandoned the range when they found it hard to keep the colour consistent, hence it being described as 'lost'. The rare samples that leaked out have since become expensive collector's items.

The good news for all enthusiasts of the look is that sixty years later, T.G. Green have cracked the colour and brought the range back into production. The cheerful and festive colour combination has been applied to all their traditional items and is now just a click away.

Prices start at £10 for a beaker.

Eclectic Chair Bespoke Upholstery

Suzanichair120908(1)
The delightfully named Eclectic Chair is upholstery expert, Heather Linnitt, who offers a revamping service that will give a new lease of life to tired old chairs, sofas and footstools.

Heather loves 50s and 60s furniture, vintage fabric, Orla Kiely and Paul Smith designs, so loves to incorporate these inspirations into her upholstery projects. She is based in Leeds, so offers her services anywhere in Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, although will consider work from elsewhere. Prices start from £40 for a simple recover of a drop in seat dining chair, up to £1000 for a large sofa, but in the first instance, she asks people to drop her line with a photograph of the piece of furniture and from there she will help you find the ideal covering for it.

For more information including photographs of other pieces she has done, visit the Eclectic Chair website.
