1950s Modern Art table lamp by Yki Nummi

Modernart

A lesser-known design classic is back on the market – the Modern Art table lamp by Yki Nummi.

First produced back in 1955, the lamps has a base of transparent acrylic, with a shade in white acrylic to 'gently illuminate' the surroundings. Understated style you might say – and it's something that MoMA agrees with, it's been in its permanent collection for over 50 years.

It could be in yours too for 320 Euros.

LSA Rooster mugs

LSA rooster

Like LSA's Zabo vases we featured earlier in the year, you'd be forgiven for thinking these Rooster mugs were an older Scandinavian item. In fact they are another contemporary design by Monika Lubkowska-Jones. The mugs have a folk art look, each mug featuring a slight variant on a basic design of the silhouettes of two roosters.

A set features all four designs, each on a different colour mug, and costs £20.

It's being sold as cushions or, for the more craftily minded, as fabric in bright pink, red or orange colourways.

The cushions are for sale for £34 each while the fabric costs £21 per metre. But if you're interested you need to hurry as only 150 metres of each colour have been printed.

Discoco light

Discoco

Though the Discoco light is a contemporary look, it certainly has a lot of retro style. The shape is reminiscent of the Louis Poulsen PH pendants from the fifties, while the use of the discs suggests some 1960s influence. The 35 discs are opaque so the light is directed past them to dramatic effect, as demonstrated in the image above.

This light is designed by Christophe Mathieu and comes as either a 55cm or, far more impressive 88cm model. The size difference is reflected in the price, with the smaller version costing £495 compared to £945 for the larger light.
