Karlsson Station alarm clock

Station

Inspired by a classic, but for the price of a takeaway – the Karlsson Station alarm clock is a very affordable piece of timeless design.

Look familiar? Well, it should do – this is almost an exact replica of the classic Mondaine Railway Clock, which was designed by Swiss railway employee Hans Hilfiker in the 1940s for Switzerland's railway stations.

The Station alarm clock has much the same design, but is encased in brushed steel and sized at just 9cm across. Small size, but a small price of just £12.50 – which is considerably cheaper than the travel version of the Mondaine Clock, which will set you back around £125.

The Redstone Press 2010 Russian diary

Diary_2010_Shop_large

If you are already looking ahead to next year and want to stock up on your stationery now, you may be interested in The Redstone Press' 2010 Russian diary. If you've ever bought one of Redstone's diaries before you'll know what a visual treat they are and this one is no different. Its illustrations are collected from 1920s and 1930s children literature from the Soviet Union and include works by artists such as Vladimir Mayakovsky and El Lissitzky. The images give a glimpse not only into the imaginary worlds of children's books but also the idealism of the period.

The diaries are sturdy and spiral bound and cost £14.95 for a year's worth of inspiration.

Pierre Paulin Flower Low Chair for Magis

Flowerchair

A tribute to one of the designer's previous creations – that's the Pierre Paulin Flower Low Chair for Magis.

This 2009 seat apparently 'pays tribute to the vintage flower chair from Pierre Paulin', which was around in the 1960s. The new version is offered in a clear or smoked grey finish (pictured above) and made of polycarbonatem, with a seat cushion in polyurethane with Kvadrat fabric.

Very space age, very cool, you can pick one up for £570.

Zero 60s-style lounge chair by Marre Moerel

Zero

A modern design that could have come straight out of a late 60s design showroom – the Zero lounge chair by Marre Moerel.

Interestingly, the maker offers up a different retro reference, 'reminiscent of the Pacman character' apparently. But we think it's got more of that 60s vibe, with a base in chromed steel, with side and back support in a cold foam and upholstery in a choice of colourful Kvadrat Hallingdal and Flora2 fabrics.

It sells for £1,748.

George Nelson 1950s ceramic clocks for Vitra

Nelson_ceramic

Classic designs that are well over 50 years old, but the George Nelson ceramic clocks for Vitra have only recently gone into production.

They ere designed back in 1953, developed as far as the production stage, but never actually sold. 56 years later, Vitra has used the original plans and prototypes to finally produce them properly, complete with original quartz movements.

So all you need to do is decide which of the three eye-catching, sculpture-like porcelain and metal designs you want. The price is the same for all – around £170.
