Darling Clementine 1970s notebooks and greetings cards

Clementine

Not just cute, but authentically 1970s – that's what you get when you buy these Darling Clementine notebooks and greetings cards.

The designs were produced by Darling Clementine back in 1973, but still remarkably contemporary (and indeed eye-catching) 36 years later, which makes them pretty much perfect for a greetings card. Or if you haven't got any birthdays on the horizon, there are notebooks too with the same bold designs on the outside, but with 96 sheets of blank paper (so you can draw your own) on the inside.

Check out all the designs via the website, with prces at £2.19 for a card, £4.49 for a notebook.

ClassiCon Kilin 1970s lounge chair by Sergio Rodrigues

Kilin

Yesterday we featured the Mole chair by Sergio Rodrigues, but ClassiCon has also reissued one of the designer's 1970s seats too – the Kilin lounge chair.

This Brazilian mid-century gem actually dates back to 1973, but follows the same comfort with style principles, offering a handmade chair with solid eucalyptus frame that's been stained with clear varnish, along with a sling back and seat of either leather or natural cow hide.

If that appeals, you can buy one online, priced from £2,117.

V&A Pattern books

V&A pattern row

The V&A Museum are launching the V&A Pattern books, a chance to look a bit closer at aspects of the museum's fantastic collection. There are four books in this initial release and each book features 65 patterns that have been found across a range of materials in the museum – such as wallpapers, designs and textiles  grouped around a different theme. The themes are quite diverse. The first two books tackle William Morris and Indian Florals (both quite self explanatory), the third looks at fifties designs (lots of Lucienne Day, Marion Mahler and Sylvia Chalmers) and finally Digital Pioneers features interesting examples of early explorations into creating computer generated patterns. Each book features a curator penned introduction to the topic.

At £7.99, they are a great small gift but, as each book also contains a CD of the images, they could also be used for design inspiration. There is also a limited edition box set available featuring all four titles for £30.

Tom Dixon space age Fluoro Shade floor light

Fluoro

It screams the 1970s, yet the Tom Dixon Fluoro Shade floor light is a very much a modern-day piece of design.

Made of blow-moulded polycarbonate, the lamp then receives an external powder coating in that matt fluorescent orange to give it that eye-catching finish, a 60w bulb throwing out the light via the open space.

It coems with a 3-metre cable and foot switch and is designed to be used either individually or in a group. Not that buying a few will be cheap – each one retails for £215.

1930s vintage ceiling lights at Elemental

Bauhaus_lamp

Another stylish bit of salvage – these 1930s vintage ceiling lights at Elemental.

They go by the name of the 'Bauhaus Lamp', but we don't think there's any firm connection to the German design house. Saying that, they are German, made sometime in the 1930s and constructed from bakelite in a domed shape with eye-catching detailing on the rear of the lights.

If you want something just a little different for your home (especially if you have a high ceiling), these could be worth a look. The only downside is a lack of price on the site – frustratingly, you can only access price information once you register with Elemental, which probably scares off more customers than it encourages.
