Christian Girard 1969 table lamp for Azimut Industries

1969

Cool, quirky and very much of its era – the Christian Girard 1969 table lamp for Azimut Industries.

Named after the year of its design (1969), the lacquered steel lamp is actually quite a clever little thing – the light sits on top of that domed lamp magnetically – which mean you can slide it around the base for the right angle. Loving that car-like light too.

Take your pick from various colours (including period-authentic orange), with the lamp selling for £132.

Tatty Devine Acoustic Locator Brooch

Acousticlocator

More modernist style comes in the form of this Tatty Devine Acoustic Locator brooch. Tatty Devine's fun and retro designs are well known on these pages but this piece comes from a darker place: the acoustic locator was a device used in World War I to detect oncoming planes through funnelling sound. Inspiration for the brooch came through the modernist photographs of Pil and Galia Kollectiv currently on display in Tatty Devine's Brick Lane shop.

Even without knowing its story, the geometric shape and futuristic look of the piece makes it a striking piece of jewellery. The piece is made from four different pieces of acrylic – mirror, glitter, silver and black – to really make it stand out. The brooch costs £39 and it's also available as a necklace for £36.

1950s Jeremy armchair by Milly Rose

Jeremy

An old chair with a modern-day fabric makeover – the Jeremy armchair by Milly Rose.

We don't know much about the chair, aside from it being a vintage piece from the 1950s with just light wear and tear, but on the plus side, oozing mid-century style. And of course, with that silk and cotton Missoni fabric finish that makes this particular chair jump out from the crowd.

If you want it, the Jeremy sells for £900 (and note, this is a one-off).

Ballfinger

A modern design with 60s looks – the Roland Schneider Ballfinger table lamp.

It actually only dates back to 2004, but with that classic look, space age 'ball' head and vintage-style detailing (check out that on/off switch), it can certain pass for a period piece.

The lamp rotates 360 degrees and and has an adjustable, polished aluminium arm, coupled with a high-gloss coated steel finish. Choose from a variety of colours for $750 in the US (from Nest Living) or for around £250 in the UK via the link below.

Bizarre Corset Girl cigarette case

Bizarre cigarette

There are many things which have repeatedly come in and out of fashion from bygone eras, but of all the mainstays from the past, smoking seems the most controversial of late. That doesn't have to mean that the tobaccania of vintage eras has to go, though.

This Bizarre Corset Girl cigarette case is one of many retro reproduction case designs. One of the most stylish ways to house your cigarettes, it can double up as an ID holder among many uses for non-smokers too. This fetish style pin-up design features on both sides of the same case, handmade in the US.

Get yours from Pin-Up Girl Clothing online for $29.

Harry Allen Roller Stop

Harry Allen

This bright and appealing Roller Stop is the brainchild of Harry Allen, an American designer who works across interior, product and furniture design. He currently has furniture in production with, amongst others, Habitat, Dune and Magis.

It's a resin cast of an original 1970s roller skate, so it's life size at just under 30cm high. Whilst most skates are designed to move, this is intended for use as a stopper: either as a doorstop or, if you have large enough shelves, a bookend. At £78.50 it costs a bit more than the average pair of skates but may prove more useful.
