Indian Ocean Venus range – mid-century style outdoor furniture

Venus1

It's not easy finding cool outdoor furniture and even harder finding something smart for a conservatory or sun room. But the Indian Ocean Venus range should make that search considerably easier.

Look familiar? Well, you might spot a distinct similarity with the 1960s Warren Platner range for Knoll (which we covered some time back). The tables are almost identical, aside from a slight shift in proportion, slightly different wirework and of course, the option to use this particular range outside.

All the range is lightweight for easy carrying and is finished in white. Choose from two sizes of dining table (from £496), three styles of chair (a carver chair with arms for £229, a dining chair for £194 and a larger lounger for £413), with custom cushions also available, priced at £90.

You can see them now at Selfridges – and you can see more images over the page.

AmpLamp – 70s-style light meets audio system

Amplamp1

If you're in the market for a big and chunk 70s-style lamp and an audio system, you can now have both in one package – the AmpLamp.

Yes, on first glance, this looks like a refugee from 1973, but it's actually a very modern piece of technology, packing in the light via the big shade and a couple of energy saving light bulbs and the sound from speakers house around those bulbs.

You can just volume, bass and 'spatial awareness' (presumably for surround-like sound) and hook up an iPod, MP3 player or other gadget via the rear connectors. Don't like the look? No problem – other styles are also available. Shame about the price really, which starts at £1,200. If that doesn't put you off, you can pick one up now at Harrods. See over for an image of the back panel.

Tam Tam RenomaGraph stools – art meets design

Tamtam1

Just when you thought nothing else could be done with the Tam Tam stool, we discover a new take on the 60s classic – Tam Tam RenomaGraph stools.

Something of a two-for-one deal here, not only do you get the iconic 1960s design from Henry Massonnet (promoted initially by Brigitte Bardot no less), but you also get a piece of eye-catching artwork on the top from French artist/designer Maurice Renoma.

It's a really cool mix of the old and the new – and amazingly, it's still super-cheap. You can pick up a Tam Tam RenomaGraph for just £35.40, which makes it a contender for bargain of the year. See over for another image of the stool or check out the site for the full range.

Retro Rooms: Tony Strange

Tony1

After a brief detour to Finland, our Retro Rooms feature is back in the UK – London to be precise, for the room of Tony Strange.

Tony says he has a 'retro house' rather than a retro room, but we're just being let in on the living room for now. Plenty of space age design packing the place – and we're loving that round TV too.

See over for more photos and once again, if you want to show off your house or a single room, just get in touch.

Eero Aarnio Double Bubble lamp

Doublebubble

Yesterday, as part of our Retro Rooms feature, I noticed that the Eero Aarnio Double Bubble lamp was mentioned – and realised we'd never actually featured it.

The Double Bubble looks like it's been dragged kicking and screaming from the late 60s, but it's actually a fairly modern design. dating back to 2001. Saying that, it still packs those space age looks, those two bubble formed from plastic and with three light sources inside to evenly balance the light.

Three sizes are available (small, medium and a large standing lamp), with prices starting at 334 Euros.

Re-Braun – Dieter Rams Audio 1 gets a modern makeover

Rebraun

Regular readers will know of our love for all things Dieter Rams, including this modern interpretation of a classic – the Re-Braun.

Yes, this is the classic 1960s Audio 1, once packing a vinyl deck and radio, but thanks to Bootleg Objects, now equipped with a Wi-Fi connection for internet radio and MP3 streaming, along with two TFT displays for track info, a wireless speaker and remote control. All of that with the same 60s looks – even the controls have been adapted for the new functionality.

We would be all over but for one thing – the price of this makeover is around £12,000, not including the remote and speaker. Maybe one day. See over the page for another image.
