Western Edition Miles Davis Quintet anniversary skateboards

Miles_quintet

A take of two anniversaries has led to the launch of the Western Edition Miles Davis Quintet anniversary skateboards.

Western Edition itself is celebrating 10 years of board making, which also coincides with the 50th annoversary of Miles Davis' classic Kind of Blue album. So to celebrate, Western Edition has introduced a range of skateboards featuring the personnel of the Miles David Quintet – the people behind that iconic LP.

The series also includes t-shirts with the same designs (in a range of colours) and a set of postcards, which will be thrown in with every purchase of a board. No pricing available as yet, if you want to know more, give Western Edition a shout.

Giotto Stoppino 1970s magazine rack for Kartell

Kartell_mag

Back in the depths of time, we featured the Giotto Stoppino magazine rack as one of our first-ever Retro To Go posts. And now that it's available in a rainbow of colours, it's a good time to visit this Kartell design again.

If it looks familiar, it just might be because it was doing the rounds in Habitat a couple of years back. If you missed that, you can still get this 1971 design, now with a choice of transparent or batch-dyed PMMA finishes, the image above giving you an idea of options. There's plenty of room for your magazines in those four pockets and should you want to move it around, that raised area and a small handle made it portable too.

A design classic that doesn't cost a fortune – yours for around £69.

Ernest Race BA3 1940s armchair

Ba3

We've covered the work of Ernest Race in the past, notably the Clarissa Hulse Race Rocker and the Margaret Howell Race Heron chair. But here's something that's more faithful to the designer's original work – the Ernest Race BA3 armchair.

Like many of the Ernest Race designs, this is style conjured up from limited resources, indeed, designed in 1945, the BA3 was produced when both wood and metal were in seriously short supply. However, Race still produced an award-winning seat from die-cast aluminium and oak, with some vinyl thrown in for comfort.

Available once more, you can buy one from £467.

Less and More – The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams

Dieter

We're big fans of the work of Dieter Rams here, most of which is extensively catalogued in Less and More – The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams.

This is the book of an exhibition, held at Suntory Museum in Osaka, Japan, featuring images of over 500 consumer products designed by Rams from the 1950s through to the 1990s, primarily for Braun. It's packed full of colour images and sketches, along with both English and Japanese text and seriously cool packaging – a white plastic cover protected by a grey cardboard sleeve and different paper types used throughout.

If you want to know why Dieter Rams is the most influential product designer of the modern era, you need this. A limited edition, it sells for £75.

Jonathan Adler 70s-style Capri Genie pendant light

Adler_lights

Another gem from the mind of Jonathan Adler – the Capri Genie pendant light.

It really does pack that 1970s vibe, from the shape right through to the choice of colour (as the two above clearly show). For your money, you get the coloured glass pendant shade with polished nickel accents and room for a 60w bulb.

It's sized around 8.5 inches high, with a 13.25-inch diameter, while the cable should allow a drop of up to 132.75 inches. You can buy one online for $195.
