Barcelona Day Bed

Barcelonadaybed

I’m pretty sure that you will be familiar with the Barcelona Chair by Mies Van Der Rohe, but what about the Barcelona Day Bed?

It has the same understated style as the more famous chair, but a decadent day bed is perhaps more interesting. It is made from stainless steel with full grain Italian leather upholstery.

It is available to buy from Iconic Interiors, priced £820, in a choice of black, brown, tan, cream or white, although the black is the classic option.

Marie-Galante vintage-style Make Up Trunk

Marie

Paying homage to the old-style travel trunks that were once a staple of the cruising set is this Marie-Galante Make Up Trunk.

Not sure if you could take it with you, today it’s more of a dressing table, especially if you have restricted space in your bedroom. Folded up and it looks like a vintage case, fold it out and you have a mirror, surface space and an endless number of drawers and other storage areas.

Compact unit, but not necessarily a compact price – £1,695.

Zanotta 1940s Maggiolina lounge chair

Zanotta_mig

It might look like a piece of contemporary design, but amazingly, the Zanotta Maggiolina lounge chair actually dates back to 1947.

That was the year Marco Zanuso unveiled the design, a padded lounge chair with stainless steel tubular frame and a choice of black or white leather for the ‘sling’ and padding. Oh yes – and not forgetting the goose feather stuffing for extra comfort.

Prices vary dependent on your choice of finish, but start at a whopping £3,000.

Price? Well, this bespoke table will set you back £18,500 – or if you’e a hip hop star, you can pay £22,000 for a version coated with 24 carat gold.

Verner Panton 1960s FlowerPot pendant light returns with two new colours

Panton_new

We love the Verner Panton FlowerPot pendant light, a 60s classic (1968 to be precise) that’s stood the test of time and stayed in fashion for the last four decades. And it’s still here today, with two new colours added for 2008.

As you can see, they are green and blue, guaranteed to add a splash of colour to any room. Nothing else has changed – the lamps are still made from aluminium, with a clear wire cable that creates a ‘floating’ effect.

Now available online, they retail for £154.

Rocky – old cinema seat turned rocking chair

Rocky

A quirky design and eco-friendly too – the Rocky rocking chair.

The work of Derbyshire-based designer Guy Arzi, it uses old seating from flea pit cinemas (mainly dating back to the 50s), the wood and metal restored to its original state. But that’s not all – new, brightly coloured fabrics are used for the upholstery, while locally-sourced wood is added for the rocker base.

All of which combines to produce something both old and new, but certainly distinctive and unique. Not cheap though, each one retails for £1,499.99.
