Autoban offers mid-century style with the Bergere Bed

Bergere

We have featured just one bed in all of Retro To Go’s history. Not that we have anything against beds – it’s just rare to find an interesting, let alone one that’s retro. But we have just found our second – the Autoban Bergere Bed.

It’s an incredibly stylish design, very much in the mid-century mould and if I was a betting man, I would say it was Scandinavian. But it’s not – the bed is out of Turkey, the work of Seyhan Ozdemir and Sefer Caglar, based on the pair’s stylish Bergere armchair.

For your money, you get an oak or walnut frame, fabric or leather upholstery and a box-like design with those cool retro curves. Not the cheapest bed on the market at £2,695, but if you are looking to make a statement in the bedroom, this will say it for you. Check the website for stockists.

Marubeni offers stylish wooden iPod docks to match your sideboards

Ipod_wooden_2

Regular readers will know of our love for all things wood – like these Marubeni wooden iPod docks.

It’s all about the looks, with a choice of American Walnut or Scandinavian Birch finish, two sizes for different iPod fits (classic and nano), plus a USB connection and integrated controls. The only downside is the rather feeble pair of 1W speakers.

Initially, this is Japan only, which is a shame – with a price that’s the equivalent of just £40, it could’ve proved a stylish addition to your living room.

Ray Stool – a tribute to Ray Eames

Ray_stool

According to Radi Designers, the Ray Stool is a tribute to Ray Eames. But we just love those 60s pop art-style looks.

Apparently, the stool is based on Ray Eames’ profile, creating a totem-like stool that stands 44cm high and is available in a range of colours, including yellow, black, pearl and red.

And you can pay tribute in your home for £277.18.

Jean Prouvé Tabouret Haut bar stool

Prouve_stool

Not just any bar stool, this is the Jean Prouvé Tabouret Haut bar stool.

Designed by Prouvé in 1942 and reissued by Vitra, it is a more refined version of a typical stool, offering a round seat, four long canted legs and a tubular steel ring mounted two thirds down for solidity and as a foot rest.

The frame is made from solid oak (natural or stained), with prices at around £405.

Louis Poulsen PH Snowball pendant light

Phsnowball

When you think of the names Louis Poulsen and Poul Henningsen, you’ll probably think of the classic Artichoke lamp. But there are other equally stylish fittings around – like the Louis Poulsen PH Snowball pendant light.

This art deco-styled gem dates back to 1924, offering ‘glare free’ lighting from all angles, with the light designed so that all surfaces are illuminated at exactly the same angle.

It’s a feature light for a feature room – and at a price. Expect to pay around £1,235.
