Bennison offers vintage style or 50s kitsch with the Waikiki wallpaper

Bennison
Bennison
has been around since 1985, specialising in hand-printed fabrics and wallcoverings based on original 18th/19th Century English and French textiles discovered by Geoffrey Bennison. There’s 150 designs now in the collection, including this recent addition – Waikiki.

The design was discovered in France, dating back to the late 19th century. Although I’m guessing its tropical-style kitsch would probably look like something from the 1950s to most eyes. Which makes it ideal for a look based on that decade, a feature wall or just any room that catches the sun.

This textured hand-made paper certainly doesn’t come cheap though – expect to pay around £130 per metre.

Kartell offers Easy suspension light in silver and gold chrome finish

Kartell_easy_2

Another light, this time a fairly modern design that’s had something of a retro makeover – the Kartell Easy suspension light.

Designed by Ferruccio Laviani and previously offered in brightly-coloured polycarbonate, the Easy light has reappeared around seven years after its original launch in a chromed ABS – in a choice of gold and silver. Which shifts it from a modern design to a very retro piece that should fit effortlessly into a 70s-style room.

Not the most expensive designer light either – you can pick one up for £82.50.

Habitat offers reissued Studio Tetrarch Pistillo Lamp

Pistillo

Whether you use it as a wall lamp, table lamp or (with a bit of modification) a ceiling light, the Pistillo Lamp by Studio Tetrarch is probably one of the most eye-catching pieces of lighting you can buy today.

First introduced in 1969 and back on the market today, this iconic lamp has a single mirror topped chrome light bulb in the centre, reflecting the light form via the chrome-plated ‘arms’ to create a light source that’s something both interesting and unique,

Habitat is currently selling these (amongst other retailers), selling the Pistillo for £419.

La Sorrentina Atomic age coffee machine

Sorrentina
Designed in the late 40s by Milan designer Giordano Robbiati, the La Sorrentina coffee machine has returned from the Atomic Age and is now available to buy online.

The new version of the La Sorrentina wisely keeps the original design, but mixes new materials with old-fashioned hand production and testing – claimed to last a lifetime. It can produce from two to six espresso sized ‘shots’ and quickly froth and heat milk for cappuccinos. It also works perfectly on gas and electric stoves.

All of that obviously comes at a price – $450AUS, which works out at around £203.

George Nelson Chronopak desk clock

Chronopak
We’ve covered plenty of George Nelson wall clocks, but not many for your desk, table or bedside. We’ll make amends on that front with the George Nelson Chronopak clock.

This faithful Vitra reissue keeps the same 1949 look and feel, with a solid cherry wood casing, chrome base and striking facial design. The only difference to the original is the power source – this one runs off an AA battery (included).

Not cheap, but the £242 outlay should prove a good long term investment.
