George Nelson Eye Clock

Vitra_eyeWe’ve not featured a George Nelson clock for a few weeks now, so here is another one for you to look at – the Eye Clock.

Its hard to believe that this clock was designed fifty years ago, but it dates back to 1957. It has recently been reissued by Vitra and is one of Nelson’s more unusual designs. The use of the eye shape rather than more tradition round clock faces reminds me of the products designed by the Surrealists.

Several online shops are selling the Eye Clock, including Utility Design, and it is usually prices at just under £200.

Panton Amoebe Chair

Amoebe_pic3

Not as famous as his eponymous chair, the Amoebe Chair is another classic piece of furniture design from Verner Panton.

The Amoebe was created for the Visiona Expo, an exhibition for Bayer on board a boat, where Panton created landscapes of block colours. This chair can be used on its own or multiples can be lined up to form a sofa, giving flexible seating options.

Vitra has re-issued the Amoebe in a range of bright colours, as befits a design from the man who give his name to a colour system (Pantone). Several online shops are selling them, including Blend Design Store where they are £700 each.

Standing Balloon Lights

Little_black_fellaJenny Beardshall’s Standing Balloon Lights are very much a modern product – they are currently on show at Tent, part of the London Design Festival. But its mixture of space-age design (the balloon shade) and Victoriana (the ornate base) seems very much in keeping with a 1960’s aesthetic.

They are available with a range of coloured bases and shades, and in table lamp or floor lamp size. Prices start from £195.

Further details can be found on the Raw Studio website.

Recycled vinyl LP books

Recordbook
Personally I use my vinyl for its prime purpose – playing – but there’s an awful lot of surplus LPs around, with these recycled vinyl LP books the latest way of getting that mountain down.

Useful things too – 90 blank pages for your sketches and notes, as well as a couple of pockets for your pens and notes. And when the paper has been filled, you can use standard sheets from any stationers to sit between your records.

Available online, you can pick one up for $28 (around £14).
