You are spoilt for choice with digital radios and there are plenty in retro-styles, but if you really want to take things back to the past, you can’t get much more retro than this Crystal Radio Receiver Kit.

It is available to buy from Labour and Wait who specialise in traditional goods. Their website assures that the kit contains “everything you need to make a Crystal Radio” although personally I’ve no idea what might be required for such a task! Thankfully, for the radio-building novice, such as myself, it also comes with clear instructions along with a potted history of radio.

The kit costs £20 and can be ordered from the Labour and Wait website.

Either someone at the V&A had a long lunch at the pub or the Sixties Clock has the strangest name ever given to a radio.

Yes, this is a radio, very much in the atomic style and offering AM and FM reception, with a solitary power light and power by battery or mains. And if you don’t like the green colour here, there’s also a bold pink.
