The cassette mix tape goes USB

Mixtape_usb

Once there could be no greater sign of your love or friendship than creating and passing on your favourite tunes on an old cassette tape. But cassettes have died away, so what should you do? You could send a USB Mix Tape from Suck UK.

Yes, this is a cassette for the digital age. Instead of loading a tape, you can add your digital tunes to the USB stick included. And it comes in a cassette-style box, so you can even add the handwritten tracklisting to the outside, as well as adding your own message to the stick.

Nice idea, but as yet there isn’t a price for it. But we’ll know more when it goes on sale in September.

Candy Queen Seaside Light Switches

Dsr4_2The humble light switch – essential, but dull. Not necessarily so according to Candy Queen Designs, who produce a selection of decorative dimmer switches.

Their range of Seaside Light Switches are especially cute, featuring photographs of traditional seaside resorts, that will transport you back to childhood holidays or remind you of Quadrophenia! Images include Helter Skelters, Merry-Go-Rounds and pebble beaches. The rotary knob has been replaced by a real piece of seaside rock, set in resin, which you turn to control the lighting.

The light switches cost approximately £25 each and come with full installation instructions. Visit the Candy Queen Designs website to see the full range.

Aphelion Television

AphelionThe Aphelion Television by Stephen Foster was first available in the UK in the early 1970s. This was a period when the idea of space travel had captured the imagination of the population and this set takes its name from a term relating to orbits around the Sun.

The Aphelion is available once more, retaining its classic shape but with updated television technology – Nicam stereo sound, APSI and two scart sockets.

Pop UK is selling Aphelion sets, priced £2145, in black or white, although apparently it is being produced in red and orange too.

Old school cardboard boombox for your iPod

Cardboombox1thumb

We’ve featured Suck UK’s ever-interesting designs in the past – and they’ve come up trumps again with this cardboard boombox for an iPod.

Yes, that’s cardboard – but don’t worry, the speakers are real and this flatpack player does actually play your music. Just stick in your iPod and enjoy our tunes in full 80s glory. It’s powered by 2x AA batteries and can withstand the odd shower – although I wouldn’t leave it in the rain too long.

No price as yet, it’s just for preview so far, but that should be available in the coming weeks.
