Lizzie Prestt England-upon-Sea Mug

Normal_DSC00506
Lizzie Prestt is an independent designer who puts her illustrations onto a range of ceramic and fabric products. The design that particularly caught my eye is the England-upon-Sea Mug.

The illustration shows a traditional English seaside scene, with a row of town houses, Big Wheel and ice cream van on the front, whilst the back has a lighthouse. A similar illustration is also available on a tea towel.

The mug costs £10 and the tea towel £9 at Lizzie Prestt’s shop on Not on the High Street.

Larkin pine sideboard from Graham and Green

Larkin sideboard
This Larkin pine sideboard is part of Graham and Green's new spring collection.

The sideboard has been designed to have a vintage look, with all those drawer handles giving it the look of an old plan chest. However, appearances in this case are deceptive and the sideboard is more suited to twenty-first century storage needs: the sideboard actually is made of just two drawers at the top with two large cupboards below with a central shelf.

Not cheap but, if you like the look, the sideboard costs £875

Vintage Tennis Racket Mirrors

P1019137
Velvet Ribbon specialises in specialises in homeware that mix the old with the new, such as these Vintage Tennis Racket Mirrors.

Old-fashioned wooden tennis rackets (none of your modern ultra-light graphite models) have had the strings removed and replaced by a mirror. As they are made from vintage materials, the design of each racket will vary. Quirky certainly, but a nice talking point  for your home if you are of a sporty persuasion.

The Vintage Racket Mirror costs £50 from the Velvet Ribbon website. If squash or badminton is more your game, then you can buy one of those fashioned into a mirror on the Velvet Ribbon shop on Not on the High Street.

Daisy Chair

20-28
The Daisy Chair is part of the Galleano Collection available at StyleStore, about which I know very little, but many of their designs are clearly inspired by iconic designs of the past.

The Daisy Chair reminds me a bit of Arne Jacobsen’s Swan Chair as it has similar upturned armrests, although in this case, it is supposed to resemble flower petals rather than swan wings. It costs just over £940 with fabric upholstery or an extra £170 for leather covering.

Milton coffee table from Laura Ashley

Milton coffee table
Another simple and stylish piece of furniture courtesy of Laura Ashley and this Milton coffee table.

The oval table is part of the same range as the Milton Storage Unit we featured earlier in the month and it's got the same mid-century feel, although this table is a lot plainer and simpler. It has the benefit of the practicility of a built-in storage shelf and made from oak, it's sure to stand the test of time well.

The table costs £450.

Vintage Ferrowatt Light Bulbs

Vintage-ferro-watt-old-style-light-bulbs-60w-4939-p
Recently added to Rockett St George’s stock is the Vintage Ferrowatt Light Bulb, an exact replica of the bulb originally invented by Thomas Edison.

These light bulbs have been created using the original moulds from the early 1900s with all details kept the same including their looped filaments and hand-exhaused tips. The bulb is 60watts, has a 2,500 hour life span and is available with either a wide screw in fitting or bayonet fitting.  You could hang the bulb on its own without a shade, but even with such a beautiful bulb, it might look a bit cheap, so what you really need is a transparent shade – which coincidentally Rockett St George also currently sell.

The light bulb costs £14.99 from the Rockett St George.
