Kulinara 50s-style dinnerware by Hanna Werning

Kulinara

A modern design, but one that would pass as a relic of the past – the Kulinara dinnerware by Hanna Werning.

Designed for Rorstrand, Hanna Werning was apparently inspired by vegetables from the traditional Swedish garden and wood combined with patterns from the fifties when creating the Kulinara range of dinnerware products, a range that includes dishes, bowls and jars of varying sizes.

All are made on porcelain, but don't cost a fortune, prices starting at around 9 Euros.

Verner Panton Square Rug

Pantonrug

Simply described as Square Rug by Verner Panton, this design is available as a limited edition rug from Christopher Farr.

The design features concentric squares in the bold shades you would expect from Panton, starting with an orange square in the centre of the rug, moving out through shades of red, pink and purple until it reaches the outside with shades of blue. The rug is made from handknotted, handspun Anatolian wool and mohair.

For other important details, such as the price, you will need to contact Christopher Farr via the website.

Art Nouveau-influenced ‘Tulip Tulip’ lampshade

Tulipsilkdrumlampshade4

Art Nouveau lighting may make you think of Tiffany lamps but this Tulip Tulip lampshade draws subtly on the floral designs produced in that period. The tulip wraparound design is hand-printed onto the silk shade.

It's made by Yukari Sweeney, who (as excitement grows about the store hitting the shores of the British Isles) used to design for Anthropologie. The shade offers an attractive alternative to the Cath Kidston florals that currently are everywhere. One draw back is the price: it sells for £83.

Samba Spice Shakers

AA_SambaSP_large

The Samba Spice Shakers are apparently inspired by “the magic of South American rhythm, passion and sensuality”, being shaped like maracas. But to me, their pure white curved forms look just as much like something from a retro spaceship set.

The shakers are available in two pairs, either for salt and pepper or for sugar and cocoa. They are made from fine bone china by a traditional tableware manufacturer in Germany. They are supplied with a choice of stoppers, in either red or black silicone so you can match them to your décor.

The shakers cost £49.90 from Absolute Appetite and are available to buy from the Hidden Art Shop.

Lizzie Allen London City Gents wallpaper

Lizzie Allen City Gents

We've featured Lizzie Allen's red telephone box wallpaper previously and this London City Gents wallpaper is as British in feel. Drawing inspiration from 1950s illustrations, it captures a particular breed of gentlemen on their way to work, armed with the essentials of tie, umbrella, newspaper and briefcase.

The wallpaper is made from a 7 colour hand screen print repeat and is available in either a spring or autumn colour palette. Being a typically London scene the brollies are ever present, whichever season you choose!
