Bror Sideboard for Children

Bror_valn

I will confess to being more than slightly obsessed with sideboards. I love their practicality and that they invariable look as if they belong to one retro decade or another. So I’m delighted to have come across a new variation on the sideboard in the Bror – a sideboard for children.

Designed by Catharina Engelholm for Heirloom, who specialise in creating stylish furniture for children that would make adults envious. The Bror looks just like a typical mid-century piece, with a combination of drawers and sliding doors, and available in walnut, but it is in miniature, standing at just over 15 inches high.

The Bror costs 910 Euros (around £850) and can be ordered online from Swedish website Pid.

Go Cat Go wallpaper from Lewis and Wood

Go Cat Go

Following on from the jazz musician cushions featured earlier this week, here's something else for fans of old fashioned jazz: this Go Cat Go wallpaper from Lewis and Wood. The paper has white silhouettes, outlined with simple black lines, showing musicians playing on drums and the doubles shown reclining in comfy chair with a pipe.

It's available in various colours, each with a suitably decadent name. The colour shown is called absinthe but it also comes in pernod, gitanes and vie en rose.

The paper costs £45.02 per roll from the Fabrics and Papers website

Indochine Rosewood Writing Chest

FAM6401_M3

The Indochine Rosewood Writing Chest by Starbay looks like a piece of furniture that has been handed down through generations, but is in fact brand new.

It has been based on designs from the past, so could easily pass for something inherited from a great-grandparent. One side of the chest opens out to form a desktop, and inside there are compartments and drawers to store your stationery and papers. The drawers are in a paler wood that contrasts with the rich rosewood of the chest.

It is available to buy online from Redwood Bay for £1,150.

Coloured String Door Curtain

HY0035_1_large

Ok, so it may not be the most sophisticated item ever, but nothing says hippie interior so much as a String Door Curtain.

I have seen some more refined takes on this, with wooden and beaded designs, but for sheer nostalgic fun, the classic plastic string option is hard to beat. Described as a “cheerful waterfall of colour”, the curtain is 90cm wide with a 2 metre drop that can be cut to fit your doorway.

It costs £19.50 and is available to buy from Dutch by Design.

Graham and Green glamorous faux snakeskin dressing table

Graham and Green dressing table

Graham and Green are stocking an item sure to appeal to any wannabe vintage starlet, this faux snakeskin dressing table. It looks like something from the golden era of Hollywood and would be perfect for enhancing a boudoir.

The mirror folds up from the body of the table to reveal several compartments and there's also a slide out drawer, so there's plenty of space for storing cosmetics (or perhaps love letters from admirers).

The table costs £525 and the matching seat with a glamorous metal finish, also pictured, costs £198.

‘The Players’ jazz musican cushions by Doublethink Designs

The Players

Here are three unusual looking cushions for music fans from Doublethink Designs. They make up a series called The Players which features jazz greats illustrated as if they appear on playing cards. This means you get Charlie Parker shown as the King of Clubs, Nina Simone as the Queen of Hearts and Dizzy Gillespie as the Joker.

Victoria Evans is the talent behind Doublethink Designs and she drew the original ink drawings which have been subsequently digitally printed onto white cotton Panama for the cushion covers. Each cushion costs £50 each.
