Were it not for it's name, the Slinky light might be able to disguise its origins. Though it looks like some older constructivist-style design, it's made out of a favourite retro toy, the Slinky. The light fitting is made by Georgiosi by simply bonding the toy at either end to fit round an upside down uplighter bulb.
The metal coil adapts itself well to its new use with a result that's more sophisticated than its simple origins. The price is a lot more sophisticated too, at £60.
This Retro Dog and Flag Cushion is part of the Rule BradTannia Collection by Bradley’s.
Bradley’s is a small independent leather tannery who last year expanded their range to include a hand-printed cloth collection with a patriotic feel. The cushion features hand-printed images of dogs, the St George’s and Union Jack flags along with the mod target, all in the traditional red, blue and white.
The cushion costs £25 and can be bought online from the Bradley’s website.
The Apothecary Desk Lamp is a cheap little piece of retro style lighting. It is described as futuristic, but it is futuristic in a rather retro space-age way.
It is available in a choice of black or white, but obviously the space-age charm is most evident in the white version.
It costs just $38 (around £22) from Urban Outfitters in the USA, which is very reasonable if you happen to be in the State, less so if you are elsewhere.
It is fairly easy to find retro style storage jars for the kitchen, but most of them tend to be in the shabby chic style. The ABI Storage Jar from Habitat however is more suggestive of a 1970s Scandinavian look.
It is made from Acacia wood and measures 16cm deep, so is ideal for storing tea, coffee or sugar. It costs £12.

Made from hand embroidered felted lambs wool, it features the outline of the British Isles decorated with the names and floral emblems of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Lula Bread Bin has been designed by Chauhan Studio for Habitat.
According to the sales blurb, it was inspired by desert winds and clouds, but space-age design was the first thing it brought to my mind. It is made from pure white melamine and also has the soft curves beloved of the space-age style. It costs £40.
