Sputnik table lamp

Spuntik table

We've featured many, many variations on the classic Sputnik light before but I think this is the first time we've shown it in a table version. Yes, opposed to the usual floor or ceiling versions, this Sputnik table lamp is designed to sit on a table or sideboard, measuring just 45cm high.

Other than that, the design is pretty faithful to other versions of the light, requiring 18 bulbs for each of its arm – thankfully these are included.

If you'd like to introduce this space oddity into your home, it costs £132.

Beetle Bug Mugs from Pearl & Earl

Beetle mug

Pearl & Earl have introduced another classic retro car into the kitchen with these Beetle Bug Mugs. You'll probably recognise the style of the design from their VW Camper van mugs that have been around for a while now, but now the VW Beetle gets its turn.

The mugs each feature two illustrations of the car on the choice of 3 colours shown here. Big fan of the design? Handily they've also introduced matching tea towels.

The mugs cost £6.

Uniqlo introduces the Stripe Rib retro-styled bomber jacket

Uniqlo_bomber

Fred Perry has reissued a number of bomber jacket styles of late, but few that are easy on the wallet. That's not the case with this Stripe Rib bomber jacket, newly added to the Uniqlo range.

Uniqlo isn't exactly big on the details, but we can see a classic bomber jacket look and shape, with three colour options to choose from, along with contrast striped cuff and collar, zip pockets and a zip front. We haven't been able to see it in the flesh' as yet, so you might want to check the quality of the cloth in person, but we would guess it's a decent cotton finish.

If you want to take a chance on that, you can buy it online, priced at £39.99. Otherwise, head to your nearest store.

Fritz Hansen 1950s PK31 easy chair by Poul Kjaerholm

Pk31

A design classic from over 50 years ago – yet the Fritz Hansen PK31 easy chair will still fit effortlessly into a modern home if you have the cash to spare.

Designed by Poul Kjaerholm back in 1958, this was experiment in finding the ideal form, although I suspect you'll be more interested in those eye-catching sharp lines, matt chromed spring steel base and soft seating that's covered in leather. Stylish and comfortable – not always the case with classic design.

Sadly, it doesn't come cheap – prices start at around £7,600.

Chrome1

It might not be the first place you'd think of looking, but Argos does have the odd retro gem lurking if you're on a budget, including the 1970s-style Chrome sofa and armchair.

Very much in that late 60s/1970s area, the kind of are companies like Merrow Associates and Pieff operated in so successfully. This isn't quite so high end, but it does offer the look for not a lot of cash – a chrome frame with black (or white) leatherette covering those foam cushions.

The two-seater sofa sells for £199.99, while the armchair (pictured over the page) is £129.99. There's also a footstool for the chair, that sells for £79.99.
