Smeg supports Breakthrough Breast Cancer

Smegbreastcancer

Smeg’s 1950s style appliances need no introduction and have been featured here many a time before. But we have a particular reason for mentioning them again as the company is currently supporting the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer with sales of its pink products.

Until the end of the year, for every pink appliance sold, Smeg will donate 10 percent of the price to the cancer charity. You can buy your Smeg from any of the usual retailers and then download the donation form from the Smeg website and return it to them with a copy of your proof of purchase. A good excuse to treat yourself to a new appliance.

Visit the Smeg website for full details.

Tattoo Print Cardi from New Look

Tattoo

Tattoo prints have made their way firmly into rockabilly clothing, providing a cute a often kitsch design point. While there are many great dedicated rockabilly brands on the market, if you're feeling the pinch this Tattoo Print Cardi from New Look is a great option.

The cardigan's skinny fit means it fits well with a 50s look, hugging the figure. The low V and long sleeves create a great silhouette too. The print is subtle enough to carry the tattoo motif at the back, featuring a pin-up and swallow combo.

It's available now from New Look for £25.

Enchanted Faux Fur Coat from Warehouse

Enchanted

Fur is always a divisive choice of fabric, but if you like the look there's some impressive faux fur options out there. This Enchanted Faux Fur Coat from Warehouse has a real vintage style charm with modern craftmanship.

The cut is simple and chic, working well with the fabric to give an uncluttered look. A collarless round neck, straight cut on the body and sleeves and a mid thigh hemline make this look every inch the classic fur coat. Best of all it doesn't carry the price tag or the controversy of the true vintage pieces.

Get it from Warehouse for £80.

Pierre Paulin 1950s Lupo table for Ligne Roset

Lupo

The recently-departed Pierre Paulin reworked some old designs and introduced some new ones just before his death, the Lupo table being one of the latter.

This Scandinavian-inspired piece was actually one of Paulin's first designs, way back in 1953, but still looks every bit the modern table with its geometric shape, angled legs and cut-out 'handles' on the tray-like top, making it portable as well as stylish.

Constructed from black stained oak, it sells for £635.

Fornasetti Serratura keyhole rug

Fornasetti

There's something very eye-catching, but at the same time, a little unnerving about the Fornasetti Serratura keyhole rug.

A typically bizarre Piero Fornasetti work, it features the female face (opera singer Lina Cavalieri, should you be wondering) that was so prevalent in his work, this time in a keyhole shape on a bold red background.

Hand knotted in 100 per cent wool and sized around 3ft x 5ft, it retails for £2,390.

Ferm Living Retro Leaves wallpaper

RetroLeaves

There seems to have been lots of retro-inspired wallpapers recently and here's another one to add to the list: Ferm Living's Retro Leaves Wallpaper. Designed by Trine Anderson, it's part of their new 'Very Special Collection'. The papers all use the old-fashioned technique of surface print to produce a stencil like effect.

The technique works fantastically with the repeated pattern of skeletal leaves for this wallpaper. This, combined with the muted green and yellow colour scheme, recalls British designs of the 1950s.

The paper cost £54 a roll.
