Bill Amberg x Penguin leather-bound paperback classics

Amberg

High-end leather goods maker Bill Amberg has teamed up with publisher Penguin for some very special leather-bound paperback classics.

Bill has picked out six of his favourite novels for the leather treatment, A Room with a View by E.M.Forster, Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote, Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh, Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep, F.Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

Each one has a calves' leather cladding, specially worked so the more it is handled, the more beautiful it becomes. There's even a built-in leather bookmark and some rather stylish packaging too. Want one? You can pick up your book of choice for £30.

Printing press stamps

Printing press letters

If you were a fan of the Kent and London alphabet drawers you may also like these printing press stamps which use the same idea although on a much smaller scale. Each stamp features a letter, number or symbol inspired by old printing press blocks. They are designed to be decorative and would be an attractive alternative to the ready-made vintage looking signs that you can buy for the home.

The size of each block varies, starting at 7cm high, and each block costs £3.50.

Adidas 1980s Tennis Royal trainers reissued

Tennis_royal

Another gem from the archives returns, the Adidas Tennis Royal trainers.

The name gives away its heritage as a tennis shoe, although this early 80s shoe was picked up on the casual scene back in the day too – you'll see it featured in the remake of The Firm on the big screen right now. Typical of the court shoes of the day, the Tennis Royal offers up a white leather upper and contrast three-stripe branding, along with a perforated upper and toebox for breathing and a construction built for comfort.

Choose from black or green detailing (an image of the black over the page), both priced at £55.

BarDeco Lamps

LM_BarDecoPblk_popup

The BarDeco Lamps were inspired by the barcode, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of its patent this month.

The bars on the lampshade are different widths which in this case allows different amounts of light and shade to be created, but also replicates the appearance of a barcode. The design also has a hint of art deco style about it hence the name. The lamps are available in a choice of either black (pictured here) or white and are made from powder-coated steel.

The BarDeco Lamp costs £179 and can be bought online from the Hidden Art Shop.

Vintage New York Subway Handle

Swatch_1465_sw_image

My first reaction to the Vintage New York Subway Handle was “that’s cool, but what do you do with it?”. Thankfully, the retailer, Pedlars, has made some suggestions such as using it hang tea towels in the kitchen or hand towels in the bathroom.

Pedlars has acquired 200 of these handles from decommissioned New York subways and they certainly make an interesting talking point, if you can find a suitable use for them in your home.

The handles cost £59.95 each from Pedlars.
