Keith Haring fabric patches from the Pop Life exhibition shop

Fabric patches

The exhibition Pop Life opened last week at Tate Modern. The show looks at the impact of Pop Art and how following generations of artists embraced the cult of celebrity and the commercial opportunities it offered. At the centre of the exhibition is a recreation of Keith Haring's Pop Shop which he set up in New York to sell his branded products directly to the public. Of course this means Tate is stocking some great related products, including these fabric patches.

Reflecting Haring's willingness to put his name to just about anything, they use four of his famous designs, including the baby. They are perfect for adding a touch of street art to a worn, but otherwise loved, item of clothing. At £4.40 each they are a cheap way into buying into a favourite artist and the spirit of the exhibition.

Teapots and Jugs tea towel by Skinny laMinx

Teapot teatowel

We've featured Skinny laMinx before: her borrowed spoons textile had a distinctive 50s feel about it. Her new Teapots and Jugs tea towel has a similar look, partly because it is based on illustrations of all the vintage teapots and jugs she owns! Prepare to be envious of her attractive looking collection (you can see the original objects on her blog). The patterns and shapes of the ceramics are displayed in outline against panels of block colour.

The design is screenprinted onto hopsack and is available in grey or dutch orange for $12.50.

Puzzle Cube Decal

Il_430xN_66342067

The addictive Rubix cube puzzle spawned several imitators in the 80s, but more recently it has inspired dozens of products such as this Puzzle Cube Decal.

As I could never complete more than one side of the puzzle, I probably wouldn’t be in a rush to be reminded of the frustrating hours spent twisting and turning, but for those who love a bit of 80s nostalgia, this could be the perfect fun wall decoration. The pack contains two cube stickers, one with white, yellow and green sides, the other white, blue and red sides, although you can have cubes made in custom colours too.

The decals cost $45 (around £30) from Vinyl Wall Design on Etsy.

Type Map Print

658

We’ve made no secret of our love of typography and the Type Map Print is another product to appeal to this infatuation.

The print is a map of the UK, made up of place names cleverly written in different sized fonts to represent the size of the city or town. The print also fits well with the current trend for all things British. It is available in a choice of vintage-looking duck egg blue or classy slate grey and measures 50cm by 70cm.

The print costs £38 from Bodie and Fou.

Sessun Check 70s Gillet

Sessun

There is seemingly a constant supply of vaguely hippie wear on the high street, but if you're looking for some more genuine looking 70s folkie wear it takes some digging. This Gillet jacket from Sessun is a rare gem in its authenticity at every detail.

The fur trim gives that unmistakeably seventies appeal, along with a colour palette of browns that immediately speaks of the era. The use of a toggle style button finishes this off to give an unusual piece of outerwear that's ideal for layering with true vintage pieces.

It's available from Urban Outfitters UK for £120.

Footglove Wide Fit Bow Shoes

Footglove

Marks and Spencer have revamped much of their fashion ranges for a younger audience, but for vintage lovers the best port of call is their remaining old fashioned fare. These Footglove Wide Fit Bow Shoes are perhaps something you'd expect from the old M&S, but that's no bad thing for retrophiles.

The burgundy suede, in real leather, perfectly compliments this pretty day shoe. A low heel, bow at the vamp and contrast coloured leather stripe all tie together well to create a forties style shoe that is virtually ageless.

Get them now from Marks and Spencer for £39.50.
