Private Cloud Rocking Bed

2-25-bed3

Whilst retro-patterned bed sets aren’t difficult to come by, bed design tends to be a more limited field. However, here is an interesting design, which although new, looks as if it came from a mid-century designer.

The Rocking Bed has been created by a Germany company called Private Cloud. Quite simply it combines the best elements of the rocking chair and the bed, Their website describes the soothing properties of rocking as well as reassurances that the bed can be stablised while you sleep and it can’t be overturned.

I’m sold on the idea, but given it is shape, you would need a large bedroom as well as a similarly large wallet with the Rocking Bed costing between 5400 and 6700 Euros depending on the size. If you have the space and the money, visit the Private Cloud website for more information.

Egloo Salt and Pepper Set

Egloo

The Egloo Salt and Pepper Shakers are shaped somewhere between an egg and an igloo, hence the name.

It has been design and produced by an independent pottery in Stoke, where it is cast, glaze and has the graphic applied by the small team. It is that graphic that gives the Egloo a retro dimension, in this case a silhouette of a Beefeater, viewed from the front on one shaker and from the back on the other.

The Egloo set can be bought from drpd via Bouf for £18.

Jasmina Sequin Dress from Monsoon

Jasmina dress

Sequins are firmly back in style with the mainstream fashion bods, and while much of the sparkly fare is distinctly modern, there's plenty of vintage inspiration to be found in the ranks. This Jasmina Sequin Dress from Monsoon has a great 40s appeal, taking clear inspiration from Marilyn Monroe's most risqué number in Some Like It Hot.

The simple shift shape lets silver square sequins look luxurious but not overdone, with a subtle colour palette too. The sheer neck panel is offset by a longer hem to provide a classic look that's a great imitation of the forties starlet's frock.

Get it from Monsoon now for £80.

Village cushion set

Village cushion

More folk art-inspired goodness with this Village cushion set. The cushions look great individually in an attractively retro yellow and grey colour scheme but also fit together to form the landscape of a village. While some cushions show trees, roads and houses, there are also smaller cushions which feature only show things like a dog or a bird.

The cushions are the work of Rachael Cole, a Brooklyn based art director and illustrator. As they are handmade, they are quite pricey. A full village made of nine pillows costs $525 and individually they range from $145 for a large cushion down to $14 for the smaller animals.
