Newgate Postmaster Architectural Wall Clock

934055_m

The Newgate Postmaster Architectural Wall Clock features photographs of vintage door numbers printed on posterboard squares.

Each number is in a different style which adds character to this timepiece. You then have the option of fixing the posterboard numbers on the wall in whatever way you like, although I would suggest that the tried and tested method of having the 12 at the top and the 6 at the bottom is probably still the best layout.

The clock is available to buy from Beth Stevens priced £45.

Vivienne Westwood Trompe L’Oeil Drape Wallpaper

Vwtartanwallpaper

Wallpapers inspired by the Fifties, Sixties and art deco style are ten a penny, but I think this is the first I’ve come across inspired by the punk aesthetic. The Trompe L‘Oeil Drape wallpaper has been designed by Vivienne Westwood for Cole & Son.

The wallpaper features her trademark tartan with the trompe ‘oeil effect making it look like folded fabric. It is sold in wide width panels measuring 270cm by 270cm, which isn’t for the faint-hearted.

No prices are given, but you can search for your nearest stockist on the Cole & Son website.

Retro Ken T-Shirt from New Look

                         Erez

There is an endless swathe of Barbie memorabilia on the market, whether you're a collector or just a lover of the kitschy design. But what would Barbie be without her Ken, equally prime for kitschy retro exploitation, as in this T-Shirt from New Look.

The design featured has a purposefully retro feel, conjuring the look of the 70s/80s American beach kids. In a pale blue, this t-shirt avoids the usual bombardment of pink and sparkles that goes with much Barbie memorabilia, instead creating a fun little tee with a timeless logo.

It's new in at New Look for £12.

Leopard Print Long Swing Coat from Miss Selfridge

                                  23C03DBRN_large
It takes a brave sort to commit to wearing animal print all over, instead of smaller accessories, but it's a surefire way to retro chic. This Leopard Print Swing Coat from Miss Selfridge combines a vintage inspired shape with that daring print to give a winter coat that stands out from the crowd.

The swing coat shape is done well, with simplicity and subtle details perfectly offsetting the busy print. The turned down collar, a-line cut and two simple buttons work well to give subtle 60s flair. The print is done well in muted browns, making it wearable for just about any occasion, accompanied with the right amount of attitude.

It's available from Miss Selfridge now for £80.

Slice chest and side table by Wales & Wales for Heal’s

Slice_heals

We’ve already featured the Robert Welch Hobart candlestick and the Heals: 200 Years book, but here’s another product that’s come out of Heal’s bicentenary celebrations. Part of the Heal’s ReDiscovers collection, the Slice chest and side table has been designed by Wales & Wales and is inspired by Christopher Heal’s multifunctional designs.

The chest and table are made from walnut but the orange lacquer detailing sets them apart. It’s a touch that’s been used in some of Wales & Wales’ other work that seems to work particularly well on these pieces.

As you might imagine, this doesn’t come cheap. The side table costs £495 while the tall 6 drawer chest is £1495 and the wide version is £1795.

Padgett delft rug from the Designers Guild

Padgett-delft-rug-full

The Padgett delft rug from the Designer Guild is another design that seems to look to the 1960s and '70s in its design. The bold geometric pattern doesn't look dissimilar to some of David Hicks' numbers from that period. That's no bad thing and the Designer Guild seem to have realised that too as they've also used the pattern on a black throw and, in various colourways, on wallpaper.

The pattern arguably looks the most sophisticated on this rug which measures 160 x 260cm and is a wool and viscose mix. The sophistication costs however: in this case £695.
