Verner Panton Pantop pendant light gets colourful

Verpan_green

We have featured the table version of this in the past, but never the Verner Panton Pantop pendant light. However, as it's been just been reissued in some bold new colour options for 2009, it seems like the perfect time to put that right.

First produced back in 1980, the Pantop is distinctive for its bell-like shade, produced in metal and accompanied by a chrome ceiling  canopy, white fabric wire and an engraved Verner Panton signature.

The green version is accompanied by a pink version, both selling for £220.

Gillian Blease Oranges patterned tray

Blease tray 1

Gillian Blease's Oranges tray has a fantastically fruity pattern that looks like it dates from a good few decades earlier than 2009. The pattern uses simplified versions of whole oranges and fruit slices, in a simple colour palette of white, green and (somewhat obviously) orange. The design sits on a circular white plastic tray.

Blease is a British based illustrator who has also designed a similarly attractive lemon tray. Both retail for £25.

Nintendo NES controller card holder

NES card holder

Here's one for retro gaming geeks. It's another item in the huge range of Nintendo inspired goods (including pillow cases and wallets) that are available: a Nintendo NES controller card holder with all the buttons of the original controller. It also has two compartments, one for your business cards and the other for the cards you collect. However, if you want to be taken seriously at work, it's arguable how much pulling a card out of this thing will help.

Perhaps unsurprisingly this marriage of gaming and business has come out of Japan. It's not on sale until October, but is available to pre-order for 21.46 Euros.

Georg Jensen Quack Serving Jug

Yhst-36248216921031_2059_56409944

The Georg Jensen company has been producing stylish designs for over a century now, but the name is still most closely associated with mid-century Scandinavian style. The Quack Serving Jug is another great example of that style.

The jug is so named because its body shape is based on a duck, although I first noticed its retro-style curves rather than its resemblance to a bird. It is made from aluminium and insulating plastic. It is available in a choice of three colours – black, beige or brown, with the latter being the best bet for a truly retro look.

It is available to buy from the Howath Gallery priced £59.

Lisa Stickley Bone China

725a

Lisa Stickley is being heralded as the new Cath Kidston, so if you like that shabby chic style, but want something less ubiquitous, then Lisa could have what you want.  Her range includes textiles and bags, but my favourite has to be her collection of bone china.

Based on designs from the 50s and 60s,the china is decorated with retro patterns such as dots, stripes and vintage florals.  The collection uses suitably vintage-looking colours with charcoal and old blue dominating.

Mugs cost £10 each, teapots £48 and the side plates pictured here are on sale, reduced from £26 to £16.50.  Visit the Lisa Stickley London website to buy.
