Fred Perry x Tootal 60s-style scarves

Fred_tootal1

Two vintage labels have got together to rework a vintage classic – Fred Perry x Tootal scarves.

On the face of it, these are nothing more than another reissue of the classic Tootal scarf, double-sided with typical retro designs including a polka dot and paisley, with the usual tassled finish. Except these also feature the Fred Perry detailing (notably the laurel) on that silk and wool mix and if you're a collector of such stuff, are only avaialble in very limited numbers.

The price? £40 each. See over the page for another of the designs.

Shag and Disneyland introduce the 40th anniversary Haunted Mansion art and merchandise range

Shag_disney1

For Shag fans, Christmas has come early, just as long as you happen to be near the Disneyland in California, which is selling the 40th anniversary Haunted Mansion art and merchandise range.

The original paintings, limited edition prints, and special limited edition apparel and merchandise has all been designed by Shag over a two-year period and will go on sale to the general public on Sunday, August 9th, 2009 at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Quantities are limited, and will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis. Which leaves little chance for the rest of us.

In the meantime, Disney has helpfully photographed and priced everything from the sale, including the original painting above (yours for $16,000), some more affordable prints (from around $275) and some bizarre merchandise, including glassware and a limited edition Shag-inspired Mickey ear hat, a snip at $40. Both of those are pictured over the page or you can go here for images of everything. Shag will be on hand at Disneyland on August 9th for a meet-and-greet. Details of that via the link below.

Louis Poulsen Enigma 425 Pendant Light

Enigmalight

The Louis Poulseen Enigma 425 Pendant Light is another great space-age style piece and a very clever bit of design too.

Ultra fine wires hold the shade in place horizontally whilst creating the illusion of floating. The light source is concealed within a cone that is not visible but still allows enough glare-free light into the room.

The light costs £379 from Cloudberry Living.

Recycled Gift Wrap

Recycledwrap

You probably know that gift-wrapping your presents is terribly environmentally unsound, but somehow gifts aren’t as good without it. Thankfully Green Apple has a good selection of Recycled Gift Wrap.

This does not mean that it is paper from a previously received gift (although you can always go down that route yourself), but rather it is made from recycled paper. Moreover, the design options definitely favour retro styles. These include several retro-influenced designs by Lisa Jones and Sukie’s Alphabet design. The paper is of high quality and cost between £1.20 and £1.50 per sheet.

Visit the Green Apple website to see all of the options.

Thonet v Muji modernist tubular steel desk by Konstantin Grcic

Thonet_desk

Yesterday we featured one half of the new Muji v Thonet range, the bentwood table and chairs. Today we're checking the other half, this time inspired by the company's modernist designs of the 1920s – and including the tubular steel desk by Konstantin Grcic.

Hip German designer Konstantin Grcic has been given the chance to update the company's iconic Bauhaus-like tubular steel designs, adding a slightly contemporary twist, but effectively (and thankfully) leaving the look very much in the 20s. Which means one of the coolest desk designs ever has had a designer overhaul and comes in with a high street price tag.

How much? Well, prices being quoted are around £250 for the desk, with the chair pictured expected to sell for around £215. Again, these are due from August and initially, only from the Muji flagship store on London's Tottenham Court Road.
