House of Fraser Sputnik-style Icicle pendant light

Icicle

Reminiscent of the mid-century Sputnik light, this House of Fraser Icicle pendant light replaces the arms and balls for something a little more icy.

A chrome centre holds all of those moulded clear glass 'Icicle' arms, shooting out like an explosion. But unlike the Sputnik, this particular light needs just one bulb for illumination -  a 20W low voltage capsule bulb.

Not cheap at £172.50, but it's actually in the sale right now, having previously been £345. So something of a bargain.

eBay watch: Merrow Associates glass-fronted sideboard

Merrow_side

10 years back, Merrow Associates furniture was almost unknown, but fast forward a few years and it's everywhere – which means the once-high prices are coming down quite sharply. Except maybe for the more rare or bespoke pieces – like this Merrow Associates glass-fronted sideboard.

According to the eBay blurb, this was a bespoke piece from 1970 (many pieces were made to order), with glass replacing the usual metal or wood doors. Outside of that, there are aluminium supports, chrome trim, a rosewood veneer and glass shelves.

It might be unusual, but the price does actually reflect the credit crunch and Merrow's proliferation on eBay – up for a 'buy it now' of £890.

Poppy Treffry “Flower Power” range

Tea_teabus

Poppy Treffry makes and sells tea cosies, bags, purses and a host of other things featuring shabby chic style appliqué images. Those are all rather lovely, but perhaps more interesting is the Flower Power range.

This range includes a bag made from eclectic recycled fabrics, a tea cosie and purse featuring a camper van and a purse featuring green peas and the pun “Give Peas a Chance”. There is also the “Make Tea, Not War” cosie which is showing its support for the CND movement and tea drinking, sentiments with which I wholly agree.

Prices start from £14.95 for egg cosies up to £85 for a bag. Visit the Poppy Treffrey website to see the whole range.

See by Chloé Silk Mini Dress

Chloe

Floral patterns are big business at the moment among the fashion crowd, and while many are decidedly modern, there are some vintage inspired choices around. This See by Chloé dress isn't the most quintessential of retro pieces, but the bright, busy print is certainly taking cues from sixties psychedelia.

Not for the faint of heart, this arresting dress is seriously bright, and seriously short. It counterbalances the daring hem with a loose fit for a more casual style, lending itself well to the psych look.

Made from 100% silk, this doesn't come cheap, available at Net-a-Porter online for £325.

Felicity Floral Mac from Topshop

Felicity mac

The onset of Springtime perennially means macs and trench coats come out in force, which is no bad thing for lovers of classic fashion. If you're looking for a twist that's still in keeping with retro style, this Felicity mac from Topshop is a winner.

The delicate floral makes this a sweet, feminine take. The cut is shapely and figure focused, with a cinched waist and a belt for further close fit. The coat is lightweight and, with a shorter length and sleeves, is the ideal Spring/Summer coat investment for those of you who don't mind making an impression.

New in at Topshop, this costs a very reasonable £60.
