Sometimes a picture says it all – like the one of the Pac-Man Oven Mitt by Fred.
Yes, that is an oven glove shaped like a vintage arcade game character, just perfect for slipping your hand into and made of pure silicone to keep your hands safe from the heat.
Available to pre-order now, it sells for a bargain $14.99.
A new label well worth your attention is Tuk Clothing.
They specialise in pretty much one thing – slim-fit shirts – with the company using local tailors and bold, colourful 100 per cent cotton cloth with a vintage slant to produce a slimline shirt range in small numbers, with no pockets and small collars.
Right now there's a choice of gingham check and floral cloths, with the detailing the same for all the shirts currently for sale. But it is early days. I've dropped the company a line and they are going to expand the detailing choice and will do subtle changes of detail if you ask first.
In the meantime, check out the site for the current range – price is around £55.
If you happen to be cultivating that early 70s, space age / Space 1999 look, the Artemide Time and Space table lamp by Karim Rashid could be a nice addition to the collection.
Space for space age and Time for time – yes, this is as much clock as a lamp, that old school digital display sat in an oval frame, complete with an alarm should you want it at your bedside. And there's light too, with a diffuser housing high-contrast LED lighting, all controlled by a panel at the bottom of the stem.
See over the page for am image of the full-sized lamp/clock, which is available now, priced at £303.
Following on from the Adidas Nastase, another classic trainer has got the premium treatment – the Adidas Rod Laver Tournament Edition trainers.
An understated classic from 1977, this new version of the timeless tennis shoe comes with a premium leather upper, suede detailing, the Laver name on the heel and a vintage effect rubber sole.
Sold in a collector's Tournament Edition box and in very limited numbers, you can pre-order now for £79.
Got a frustrated rock star in the family? Get them one of these vintage personalised gig posters.
The idea is simple, but rather clever – get a load of old rock poster designs, then produce them with a personalised name, be it your name, a friend, a band name or the name of that band you had at school that never quite got off the ground (Lemon Curd in my case). You can even use it for a poster for your current band, saving the cost of a designer.
Once you've sorted that, get it printed as a poster, canvas or wood block and have it delivered to your door. Check out the site for all poster styles available, with prices starting at £29.
Alice & Olivia may not sell themselves as a retro reproduction line, but it's clear to see the influence many of their designs have taken from the 50s, 60s and beyond. This brocade shift dress is from their Scoop line, and provides a youthful, fun piece of sixties retro.
The understated yellow shade gives this just the right amount of girlish charm, while remaining firmly in the colour palette of the era. The shape is simple but perfectly done, with a sleeveless, high neck cut and a mid thigh hem. The unstructured shape means this mini-dress errs on the right sight of daring.
