Sunspel has been making men’s clothing for almost 150 years – but has never had its own retail store. Until now that is. The high-end label has just opened a one-off Christmas store in Central Arcade, Covent Garden Market, London.
If you can’t browse that store, you can buy online – with items including the Sunspel 1950s-style James Bond 007 polo shirt. The short was worn by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, but is actually based on a 1950s top designed for the Italian Riviera – made of a unique Sunspel cotton-based fabric, with a slim/vintage fit and single breast pocket.
It’s what the fashion magazines might describe as a ‘wardrobe essential’. And you can pick one up for £59.50. Actually, it sells for a bit less – quote ‘shop123’ at checkout and get another 10 per cent off.

If you’re looking for an example of why Le Corbusier’s designs are so timeless, look no further than the Le Corbusier Casiers Standard Storage Unit.
Designed way back in 1925 and able to fit into every decade since – still looking sharp in 2008. Designed as a functional piece for both home and office, the unit offers storage and plenty of it, both exposed and closed. And it’s a style statement too – with both wood and coloured finishes available, along with a choice of metal or pedestal legs.
Not exactly cheap at £6,000, but if you’re looking for something to be around as long as you (and to earn its keep), this is certainly worth a look.
Cowboy shirts have always been a staple of retro Americana, and for many they’ve never lost their classic appeal. Finding a ladies shirt that’s not straight out of Dolly Parton’s wardrobe can be tricky, but this 50s vintage find from Rokit is perfect.
The cream and black palette are ideal to show off the delicate embroidery on both the chest and collar. Perfectly shaped like the real thing, this is a great adaptation of the men’s classic using a simple nip at the waist.

Finding retro separates for ladies can be nigh on impossible, especially in the winter months. Fifties mainstream fashion has plenty of ideas still to plunder, and Miss Selfridge have picked a winner with these Daisy Collar Jumpers.
In classic black and white, or a sunnier yellow, these are the right side of cutesy fifties fashion. The figure hugging wool bodice allows for a less girly look overall, while the notched collar adds some edge to what could be frumpy lace.

The 100% Egyptian cotton pillowcase has a black and white picture of a retro (possibly 1980s?) television printed on it. It certainly isn’t a modern television set as it control dials rather than the buttons we are accustomed to these days. When you lie down, your head will be in the middle of the television, just as if you were on the screen which is perhaps a better way to appear on television than subjecting yourself to humiliation on a reality TV show.
