Daisy Collar Jumper from Miss Selfridge

Selfridge_daisy

Finding retro separates for ladies can be nigh on impossible, especially in the winter months. Fifties mainstream fashion has plenty of ideas still to plunder, and Miss Selfridge have picked a winner with these Daisy Collar Jumpers.

In classic black and white, or a sunnier yellow, these are the right side of cutesy fifties fashion. The figure hugging wool bodice allows for a less girly look overall, while the notched collar adds some edge to what could be frumpy lace.

They’re available now from Miss Selfridge for £32 each.

“Eight Hours of Fame” Pillowcase

Eighthoursoffame4web_2

We’ve featured several novelty pillows here in the past, including an 80s ghetto blaster shape pillow, a cassette player shaped one and pillows with a guitar and amp printed on them. Joining this illustrious list, is the “Eight Hours of Fame” pillowcase.

The 100% Egyptian cotton pillowcase has a black and white picture of a retro (possibly 1980s?) television printed on it. It certainly isn’t a modern television set as it control dials rather than the buttons we are accustomed to these days. When you lie down, your head will be in the middle of the television, just as if you were on the screen which is perhaps a better way to appear on television than subjecting yourself to humiliation on a reality TV show.

It costs £25 from Product of Your Environment.

Newgate Bullitt Alarm Clock

792122_m

The sound of the alarm clock is never welcome, but its particularly painful on these cold grey mornings. Whilst we can’t promise that the Newgate Bullitt Alarm Clock will make you leap out of bed with enthusiasm, it will at least be a stylish addition to your morning routine.

Presumably named after the Steve McQueen film, the Bullitt Alarm Clock has a retro shape and an interesting numbering system.

It is available in red, priced £35 from Heal’s.

Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition mobile phone

Nokia_brucelee_2

We don’t feature many mobiles phones on here – to be honest, not many have a retro angle. That’s not the case with the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition mobile phone.

Yes, this special edition is a tribute to everyone’s favourite martial arts movie star, packing that super-cool Bruce Lee doll (complete with Onitsuka Tiger trainers), a phone featuring Bruce’s face and signature on the case, a set of rare photos and accessories including a Bruce Lee strap and decorative nunchakus.

Ok, here’s the bad news. So far it’s only been released on Hong Kong, via the local Nokia website. If you don’t fancy risking that, I suspect eBay will be full of them in a matter of weeks. It’s priced at the equivalent of a whopping £871.

For sale: 1960s-designed house in Bois-le-Roy near Paris, France

Bois1

The pictures of this 1960s-designed house in Bois-le-Roy near Paris, France say it all really – my jaw dropped when I saw it.

The house was designed by French architect Claude Parent, winning awards aplenty, including being selected as a worldwide architectural masterpiece by the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Arts in 1983. We love that curved concrete roof, which is clad in copper, as well as that wood, glass and concrete finish for the house. Part space age, part mid-century, totally stunning.
