Martin Margiela 70s-inspired luxury leather trainers

Margiela

Loving the look of these Martin Margiela trainers – not so keen on the price.

The hip Belgian designer has based the shoe on a pair of 70s sports shoes he found , replicating them in a luxury leather (both inside and out), with cotton laces, a translucent gum sole and 70s-influenced colour scheme finishing off the look.

A luxury sports shoe at the luxury end of the market – £235.

V Eight re-introduces the Jensen Interceptor – with modern-day inner workings

Jensen_2

A seriously sought-after car in its 60s and 70s heyday, the Jensen Interceptor is back – with a 2008 makeover.

Here’s the deal – Oxfordshire-based V Eight has bought up all the rusting Jensens it can find, renovating the steel bodies and interiors, as well as replacing the wheels, brakes, suspension and sticking in a 620bhp General Motors engine. Essentially, it’s a new car, but with an unmistakably classic look.

Too good to be true? Well, here’s the downsides. First up, only 25 are being made initially, with a delivery date scheduled for 2010. And then there’s the price – an eye-watering £75,000.

Original BTC retro-styled Paxo pendant lights

Paxo

We feature plenty of design classics, but not too many modern light fittings with a classic look. Why? Well, there aren’t a great deal of well-made original lights with character out there. Unless you check out Original BTC.

This London-based company is owned and run by Peter Bowles (not the vintage actor I hasten to add) who also designs all the lights on offer. In general, the designs (which range from the fashionable to the functional) are a modern take on a classic look, with an attention to detail and price tags that aren’t out of general reach.

The metallic Paxo pendant above is typical, styled on the industrial lights of the early 20th century and available in a choice of plain or colourful finishes. Complete with cord and fitting it retails for £103. Check out the website for the full range.

Ossie Clark Grey Silk Dress

Ossieclarkdress

Judging by the current collection, it seems that Ossie Clark Creative Director Avsh Alom Gur is keeping the legacy of the original designer in tact.

Particularly lovely is this grey silk shirt-waister dress, which features a retro paisley print and a pleated ruffle down the front. You could quite easily picture Celia Birtwell wearing this design back in the Sixties.

It costs just under £400, is available in sizes 6 to 14 and can be bought online from Matches.
