Designer-style fittings don’t have to come with matching designer prices – as the Homebase Preston range of lights shows.
Based quite obviously on the classic Sputnik light fittings, the Presto series offers up a table light, floor light and ceiling light fitting, all mixing a shiny chrome finish and balls with arms housing mirrored golf ball-style bulbs.
An affordable way to add a mid-century vibe to your home, with prices starting at just £47.99.
US street label Alife has gone back to the past for inspiration for its latest shoe – these Alife Court Cup trainers.
Based almost exactly on the classic 1971 Adidas Stan Smith, but with a few obvious changes. The colour is certainly one, this version offered in a bold black, red and yellow, along with the Alife logo on the tongue and inside and the Alife tag attached.
You can pick them up (and stand out from the crowd) now for 125 Euros.
If you’re looking for an authentic vintage look in your home, look no further than the Cafe Lamp from Pedlars.
Yes, it’s a new light, but based in a vintage design and made in a traditional way by a long-established, family-run Metal Spinning company that used to specialise in miner’s lamps. Choose from red, cream or silver, all offering a 1930s-style functional look and supplied with both rose and wire.
Something of a steal at £42.50 and essential if you run a retro cafe!
Since the 1930s, every secret agent of note has been packing a Minox spy camera, essential for taking snaps of those secret documents or capturing the most wanted on film. And this era is no exception, with the company about to launch its first digital version – the Minox DSC.
Perfect for any budding James Bond or Harry Palmer, the DSC (Digital Spy Camera) stays true to its classic vintage style, but packs in more modern-day technology, including a 3.2 megapixel sensor, 128MB memory (expandable with memory cards), a rechargeable battery and if you want to be really sneaky, the option to shoot movies. It’s even got a separate unit for flash and 1.5-inch LCD screen, giving you the option of travelling light.
The camera gets its official launch on September 23rd, hitting retail a few weeks later. No firm news on price, although a figure of 200 Euros has been mentioned.
Good news if you happen to be doing some shopping in Japan in the near future, Lacost has teamed up with the Beauty & Youth label to produce these appropriately-named Lacoste x Beauty & Youth cardigans.
A classic look, very much in that ‘college boy’ style and made of a fine wool with contrast stripes for the collar, seam and cuffs, as well as the classic Lacoste logo.
Even if you can find one in Japan (or manage to order one online from the site below), we’re not talking cheap – expect to pay around £140.
Our favourite camera maker has just updated one of our favourite cameras – upgrading the classic Leica M8 into the Leica M8.2.
Thankfully that cool retro look has survived pretty much unscathed, with the additions all being to the inner workings. That includes a 10.3 megapixel sensor, an ‘extra quiet, low-vibration metal blade focal plane shutter’, an increase in top shutter speed to 1/4000th of a second, a new auto snapshot mode and scratch-resistant sapphire glass on the LCD screen. You can use existing M-series lenses and you can bump up the storage to 32GB using SDHC cards.
All of that should mean a great deal to the pro snappers out there, much less to us laymen who just love the timeless looks. No news on price, but it’s certain to be well into four figures. Find out more at the Leica website
