Clarks Originals launches the limited edition Akasha Wallabee

Akasha

A shoe I would guess you’ll either love or really hate – the Clarks Originals Akasha Wallabee.

The original Wallabee has been around since the 60s, when the company went out  to produce a ‘comfort shoe’ for every day use. It’s been selling ever since and has never been more popular. This new version capitalises on that success, but tries to appeal to fans of both Wallabees and trainers with a quilted suede finish, contrast seam and trainer-style sole.

Three colours available (berry, ebony and black), all available for a limited time from this week, price likely to be around the £80 mark.

Sunday Cycle Picnic in London

Cycle_picnic

Cycling and retro bikes have been more hip – so your credibility will certainly get a boost if you’re seen at the first Sunday Cycle Picnic in London.

Organised by Bobbin Bicycles, Cyclechic and Sawako Furuno, the event takes place at the London Fields in Hackney, offering a range of fun events for even the most casual of cyclists. That includes The Magnificent Revolution’s pedal-powered cinema tent (showing Ray Pascoe’s beautiful vintage cycling films and contemporary shorts), garden games, stalls and prizes for the most stylish bikes (and owners). Just bring yourself, a picnic and your friends.

And for one lucky person, a super-cool Red Bobbin Playbike is up for grabs. Just turn up on  the day in a fetching outfit and sit on the bike for  your chance to cycle it away into sunset. The event is this Sunday, 7th September, running from midday until 5pm.

Louis Poulsen PH50 lamp – 1950s light gets a makeover

Ph50_2

It’s 50 years since Poul Henningsen designed the PH5 lamp for Louis Poulsen. And to celebrate this milestone, Louis Poulsen has introduced a special edition – the PH50 lamp.

The light is designed to hang low over tables, using three reflective shades, a cone and two smaller shades to produce bright, glare-free light. The 2008 version steps away from the minimalist looks of the past, offering five bright colours – Chilli Red, Mint Blue, Wasabi Green, Coconut White and Olive Black – for the modern age.

No news on price, but I guess at the £400 mark.

Oluce Lyndon 350 – 1970s outdoor floor light

Lyndon

The nights are drawing in, which could mean investing in outdoor lighting. And there’s nothing more stylish than the Oluce Lyndon 350 by Vico Magistretti.

It’s been in production since 1977 and remains as popular as ever. Take your pick from a variety of Lyndon set-ups, although we prefer the floor-based 350, which is a mix of 18th century floor lamp and 70s space age styling. That means a black lacquered metal structure housing four globes in transparent polycarbonate – the entire structure standing around 10ft tall.

If you love spending time in the garden, it might well be worth the hefty price tag – £2,203.
