Chupa Chups launches 50th anniversary collection of retro bags

Chup1

Here’s two things you might not know – firstly, Spanish lollipop maker Chupa Chups is celebrating its 50th anniversary and secondly, its famous daisy logo was the work of Salvador Dali. And to celebrate the former, Chupa Chups is launching a 50th anniversary collection of retro bags, featuring the original logo created by the latter.

The range consists of a shoulder bag (above), utility bag, handheld bowling bag and purse (see over the page for images of the rest of the bags). All are inspired by the 1970s and are available in the original four colours of the lollipops.

They launch on July 1st, with prices ranging from £15 to £30.

Alvar Aalto Tea Trolley

Aateatrolley_3

A new study has been reported this week that claims tea has health benefits. So we’ll all be drinking more tea until another study contradicts it next week, but in the meantime, why not serve your tea in style, with Alvar Aalto’s Tea Trolley.

Introduced at the Paris World Fair back in 1937, it was based on a design created for a tuberculosis sanatorium, but this version was updated for domestic use.

It is available to buy online from Bauhaus 2 Your House, priced $2,359 (approximately £1,200). Admittedly that is a lot of money for a trolley, but the greatness of this one has been recognised by MoMA who have a one in their permanent collection.

Blofield Inflatable Chesterfield Sofa

Bfsofa2

We recently featured Branex’s re-launched inflatable Quasar range of furniture, which included a sofa they were called a Chesterfield, but it would seem that this is not the only blow-up Chesterfield on the market. Blofield also make an inflatable Chesterfield Sofa that is available to pre-order now from the Design Conscious website.

Whereas the Branex sofa is obviously an inflatable as it was transparent, the Blofield version looks more like a real Chesterfield, except you can use it outside.

The Chesterfield costs £350 and will be available in white at first with other colours being introduced in the future. So if you’ve always fancied something formal looking to sit on in the garden, order yours from Design Conscious.

Hire a Morris Minor Traveller for the weekend

Morris_minor

Fancy the idea of driving round the open country in a Morris Minor Traveller? Well, you can do just that – if you can handle a top speed of 60mph.

Worcestershire-based Great Escape is hiring out the cars, even throwing in picnic hampers, B&B recommendations and some interesting country routes in the area if you need them. The company’s HQ offers easy access to  the Cotswolds, Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire or Warwickshire. Any further and you might need more than a weekend to get there.

The Morris costs £95 per day to hire.  The price includes 24 hours use, unlimited mileage, insurance, a full information pack and carbon offsetting. Should you need something more sporty, the company also offers a Jensen Interceptor, Jaguar XJS convertible, Alfa Romeo Spider, Jaguar E Type roadster and 1974 Jaguar XJ6 long wheelbase saloon.

Buy, sell and swap your vintage clothing at Fashionspace

Vintage_fashion

For some of us the idea of trawling vintage shops for that one perfect find can be out of the question, whether it’s a lack of time or a lack of motivation to trawl through the nightmarish 1980s prom dresses. Finding vintage clothing online can be both pricey and laborious, but thankfully Fashionspace have cleverly created a Vintage Wardrobe on their site.

The site lists a wide collection of vintage pieces in one place, sold by individual owners instead of shops, allowing for no markups in price. The great prices are complimented by lengthy descriptions and feedback too. A lot like eBay really, but this time just for threads.

Emeco introduces Ettore Sottsass-designed Nine-0 seating range

Emeco

We mentioned Ettore Sottsass earlier this week when covering the classic Olivetti Valentine typewriter. He died in 2007, aged 90, but before his death he designed the Emeco Nine-0 seating range.

The design for all the chairs is an update of the classic (and modernist-inspired) Emeco 1006 Navy chair, used in submarines from 1944. The new versions come with a hand-brushed or hand-polished aluminium frame with a soft polyurethane seat and in some cases, a back too. The range includes stacking chairs, armchairs, office chairs and bar stools.

The chairs were on display at the Milan furniture show in April, but are just drifting into stores now. The US retailer Design Public currently stocks them, with prices starting at the equivalent of £190.
