Retro styled ladies shoes from Dune

Retro_shoes

We’ve seen an endless ream of high street clothes taking inspiration from vintage clothing of late. From every decade from the 20s through to the 80s, and it seems that high street footwear is no different.

Footwear retailer Dune have included a variety of vintage influenced pairs in their latest lines. From these vintage rose patterned heels to the distinctly 1970s camel suede wedge, there’s something for every retro period. Rarely is there such a chance to stock up on retro formal footwear without trawling the vintage racks.

Space Invaders style Alien dress from French Connection

71c7f

The last thing I ever expected to see in a shop like French Connection, usually the home of anything but ‘geek chic’, was an item of ladies clothing referencing retro gaming. Here we are, though, with the Alien Dress.

In a very thinly veiled reference to Space Invaders, this gaming print is fun, cute and very much a classic. Whether it really sits well with this sequin fringe is another matter. Thankfully they’ve kept the dress casual with a t-shirt style cut that’s perfect for teaming with jeans to keep things casual.

It’s available from French Connection online or in shops for a rather unexpected £120.

Adidas City Series reissues continue with Adidas London trainers

Adidas_london

Yesterday we featured the first two 1970s reissues in the Adidas City Series of trainers – Adidas Dublin and Adidas Stockholm. Well, today sees another addition available for pre-order – Adidas London.

As you would expect, the design is the same, with a few crucial differences – a red suede uppers with black leather detailing, a perforated black tongue, London name in gold lettering and a slightly different design on the base of the sole.

Still the same price though – and demand will be as high, if not higher for this version. You can pre-order now for £60.

Smeg goes small with the launch of the Fab10 mini fridge

Smeg_mini

Fancy a Smeg fridge, but struggling to find the space? Well, here’s some good news – Smeg has just launched the Fab10 mini fridge.

It keeps all the selling points of the original – retro looks, rounded corners, bold colours, 50s-style lettering – but reduces the size to just one metre high, making it ideal for smaller kitchens, offices or if you want to be really flash, as a drinks fridge.

The ‘A’ rated FAB10 measures 60cm across, adjustable thermostat, auto defrost, internal lamp and a gross capacity of 120 litres (107 litres and a 13-litre ice compartment). Take your pick  from the cream FAB10P, orange FAB10O, black FAB10NE and red FAB10R colour options. There’s even a Union Jack version, should you wish to go all pop art. Expect to pay around £805.

Sheila Maid – dry your clothes the Victorian way

Sheila_maid

Before the days of the tumble dryer, there were only two ways to dry your clothes – outside on the washing line or if it was raining, on something like the Sheila Maid.

A standard feature in just about every Victorian and Edwardian terrace (and still to be found in some), this air dryer is making a return in these eco-friendly times. – saving energy and saving you money. And not only that – if you have a period property, this quirky pine and cast iron item would sit perfectly in the kitchen and could well be a selling point.

Prices vary according to size, but expect to pay between £49 and £62.

Turtle Vac – the eco-friendly vacuum cleaner with retro looks

Turtle

It might have the look of something from the 1960s, but the Turtle Vac is actually a very modern, eco-friendly vacuum cleaner.

The chromed-up look really speaks for itself, so we’ll concentrate on the technical side, with the Turtle Vac offering four levels of filtration for maximum allergy and dust protection, a non-spill dust collection bag, a ‘breathe easy’ base ventilation filter, easy-glide wheels, adjustable height and an eco-switch – giving a 35% reduction in power and energy. The machine itself is also 100% recyclable.

The Turtle Vac is available now and priced at £195.
