Fred Perry starts half price New Year sale
Like many other retailers, Fred Perry is kicking off its Christmas sale early – with most of the discounts already available online and in its stores.
The discounts are said to be up to 50 per cent, although most seem nearer a third – with most of the existing stock getting a hefty chunk off the price tags. And as well as clothes, there’s also a markdown of accessories, including this rather smart retro green and cream holdall, with both handles and straps, vintage laurel motif and two large pockets.
You can bag this now for £28.
Stardust Elvis Pyjamas
Elvis has left the building…because it is way past his bedtime!
Stardust Kids Elvis Pyjamas are available in three sizes to fit children aged between two and five. Made from blue and black striped cotton, Elvis is emblazoned across the top in silver.
They cost just over £20 and are available from the Little Sunflowers website.
DangerMouse fancy dress costume
We’re deep into the Christmas/New Year party season and if you’re after a costume, why not go as a cult 80s cartoon character?
This DangerMouse costume is a gem and guaranteed to get you noticed amongst the pirates and the Blues Brothers. Although the white might be a bit of a risk if the drink starts flowing. Another downside is the lack of a matching Penfold costume – especially if you’re going in a pair.
But if you’re on your own, you can pick up the suit (which also includes the belt, boot-tops and padded gloves) for £29.99. The head is sold separately for £22.99.

“Labour Saving Hints and Ideas for the Home” Book
Whether it was true or not, the idea prevails that things operated more efficiently in the past. Especially when it came to running a household, it appears that our ancestors at the beginning of the last century knew best. “ Labour Saving Hints and Ideas for the Home” gives you the benefit of that wisdom, handily collected in one book.
Originally published in 1924, it contains over 1,300 tips that were compiled from entries submitted to a competition ran earlier in the decade. Some are amusing, some outdated, but overall most of them do offer sound advice.
It can be picked up from various sellers via Amazon, starting from under £2.
1970s Elephant Money Box
Money boxes are a good way to encourage children to save or for adults to collect up all that loose change that accumulates. This sweet Elephant Money Box was originally commissioned by a Swedish bank back in the 1970s.
It is made from plastic rather than china but it still looks pretty good. And the elephant design makes a nice change from the usual pig.
Priced just £5, it will leave you with plenty of money leftover to deposit in it. Details of how to buy one can be found on the Family Tree Shop website.
