Zeha retro-styled trainers out of Berlin

Zeha

Zeha is a company with a heritage dating back to 1897, but has only recently become available worldwide.

The company was based in East Germany, making sportswear for the GDR Olympic team on the 1960s and indeed, the Soviet Union football team in the same decade. The label died after the Berlin Wall fell, but was rediscovered in 2002 by two Berlin designers (Alexander Barré and Torsten Heine), who turned the company into a modern-day sports label.

And the results are both retro and stylish, headed up by the awfully-named Streetwear collection, which includes this 4010 model in a light blue suede (other colours are available), thin sole and traditional Zeha branding. No retailers in the UK, so prices aren’t clear – I’m guessing around £70.

Desktop Designer Chairs – which one will you get?

Designerchairs

Remember the Panini football stickers? As a kid, you bought packet after packet to fill an album – constantly buying the same ones in the hope of finding that elusive missing player. I sense that the Desktop Designer Chairs are the design equivalent.

The chairs are miniatures (1/12 scale) of mid-century and vintage classics but each one is boxed in a way that you cannot tell what’s inside. So you can order one from a certain series, but you’ll never be sure which ones will arrive through the post.

Mobile phones go retro with the brick-like Mini MOB handset

Brick_phone
Remember the earliest mobile phones? Brick-like in shape and weight – but at least it allowed 80s high-flyers to avoid public phone boxes. And if you want to re-create that era, you can with the Mini MOB handset.

Yes, this is a modern mobile phone, shaped like one of the early 1980s bricks. But there is good news – this is a mini version, so less weight and it has some modern features like a music and video player, mini SD slot (128MB card included), USB connectivity and the ability to use it on all the major networks.

Available now, you can pick up one of these handsets for $326 (around £160). Yes, standing out from the crowd does come at a price.
