Poker_tablePoker is enjoy newfound levels of popularity these days and if you’ve caught the card-playing bug, you may want a dedicated poker table for your home. This one was designed by influential Italian designer Joe Colombo so you won’t be sacrificing any style.

As well as the fetching regulation green baize, the table features corner mounted swing-away ashtrays.

Espacio are selling the Joe Colombo Poker Table. Be warned it costs over £2,000 so it will take a few winning hands to pay for it.

Cult costume T-shirts from ’80s Tees

80s_tees

Whatever your favourite cult reference may be, it’s safe to say that television and film breed nostalgia in almost everyone. We’ve all seen a million Superman t-shirts being worn by fans of all ages, but what of the cooler characters you loved in your youth?

80s Tees has a great collection of costume t-shirts featuring classics from Transformers to GI Joe. My favourites are the Charlie Brown and Darth Vader shirts. Transform yourself into the fictional character you always believed you could be for $20 – $30.

Clothes Hanger lamp

Hanger_light

Is there any way of improving on the classic clothes hanger? Well, yes, you can turn it into the Clothes Hanger lamp.

Designed by Hector Serrano, this is a usable hanger – in fact, hanging clothes on it brings the hanger to life. Pop on a short and watch it glow, thanks to the fluorescent light embedded into the hanger. And I presume different coloured garments will produce different coloured lights.

Available online, you can pick one up for $249 (around £125).

They come as a set of four, comprising the 1948 LaChaise, the 1951 Wire Side Chair, the 1956 Lounge Chair and Ottoman, and the 1946 Molded Plywood Chair with Metal Legs. Each chair pictured is black and the coasters are made from clear acrylic which gives them a stylish minimalist appearance.

They cost $18 per set (approximately £9) and are available to buy online from the Museum of Modern Art’s store.

Retro Retreat: Chelsea Star Hotel, New York

Dali1_bigNot to be confused with the infamous Chelsea Hotel, the Chelsea Star Hotel has an entirely different history – it was home to Madonna in the days before she was famous. But that is not our reason for featuring this budget New York hotel – the reason is its wonderful themed rooms.

The best of the double rooms are the Pop Art (bright coloured graphic filled walls) or Coney Island (painted with retro boardwalk scenes). If you want an even cheaper break and don’t mind sharing, there are quad rooms, decorated with cartoon pin-up Betty Boop or Dali style paintings. The latter may not provide the best environment for a good night’s sleep.

Further details of the rooms and rates can be found on the Star Hotel’s website.
