Shenzhou VII mobile phone – shaped like a comic book rocket

Rocketphone1

Design is just as important as functionality when it comes to selling a mobile phone – but you do feel that the people behind the Shenzhou VII mobile phone have taken that a little too far.

Yes, it’s shaped like a 50s sci-fi movie rocket – or indeed, the kind of rocket you might have found in a vintage comic book. But it still does everything you would expect – playing back music and video, making your calls and offering storage via microSD cards and connectivity via USB cable.

China only right now, but who knows…we may yet see this relic of the past in UK shops in the near future.

Stamps Disco record turntable watch

Stamps_disco
It’s been some time since we featured the retro-styled Stamps watches, but we just have to feature this Stamps Disco watch.

The watch kit comes with two different watchcases for you to choose from – a disco ball face in white and a DJ turntable in black and grey, both of which can be attached to the included leather strap.

Not sure about UK price – probably around the £40 mark. But if you’re in the US, you can pick one up from Urban Outfitters for $55.

Luckner’s online vintage design auctions

Luckners
If traditional auctions are a little too intimidating for you and eBay is too much of a risk, you might want to check out Luckner’s online vintage design auctions.

Luckner’s operates like any other auction house, with viewing of lots and condition reports available to bidders – and you get charged commission. But unlike traditional auction houses, Luckner’s operates online only – so you don’t need to take time off work to wave your bidding card.

It’s worth browsing the site, as there are some interesting and reasonably-priced items on there. The 1970s plastic and teak ceiling lamp pictured here is currently available for £40, with a great lot of 70s plastic shades online for around £50.

Eating For Victory – wartime cookery

Eatingforvictory
If your purchase of the Keep Calm and Carry On poster has awakened an interest in all things wartime, you might want to get your hands on the newly-published Eating For Victory book.

It’s a selection of original World War II leaflets, reproduced in full colour – which means a few ideas for cheap and healthy meals, as well as a nice insight into 1940s design.

Available in hardback in a vintage-style clothbound cover with a foreword by Jill Norman, you can pick a copy up for £9.99.
