Oasis Beaded Collar Dress

LbdThe high street designers continue to raid their mother’s attic for inspiration and Oasis is no different with its current range of Little Black Dresses.

Each dress in the collection comes with its own history, written on its tag and on display boards in store ( but sadly not included on the website). The tales of inspiration range from Paris to cruise ships, but best of all is the description of the Beaded Collar Dress:

“It was 1966 and this dress loved to roar down the Kings Road in an open top sports car with bare feet propped on the dashboard”

So if you are looking for a dress to transport you back to the Swinging London, then this could be the one. Priced £80, it is available to buy online or in-store – visit the Oasis website for details.

Penguin launches book range with retro sleeves

Penguin_retro
Book publisher Penguin is reissuing 36 of its bestsellers in the classic Penguin sleeves – but only for a limited time.

The Penguin Celebrations titles, cover a range reading, from vintage novels to modern classics and new releases. Oh yes…and for some inexplicable reason, Jeremy Clarkson. The only differences from the original are the size – slightly larger than the original – and the price, which is £7.99. The original sixpence price point would equate to 92p today.

All the titles are available from the start of September, with availability only expected to last until Christmas.

Vintage Robot cufflinks

Robot_cufflinks
I’m not a particular fan of novelty cufflinks – they’re second only to the novelty tie as a fashion crime. But I’m really taken with these Vintage Robot cufflinks.

Shaped like the classic 50s robot, they’re made from a steel/zinc alloy, enamelled then chrome-plated and are sized at 10 x 20 x 5cm.

Available from the Conran Shop, you can pick them up for a reasonable £13.

Uniqlo vintage-style raincoat

Uniqlo_mac
Watch just about any British movie until the mid-70s and you’ll be guaranteed that when the rain comes down, the leading man gets his raincoat out. It’s a classic garment, smart and practical – and something you can still pick up.

This Uniqlo single breasted coat is very much in the tradition of the old-style raincoat, a no-fuss garment in a choice of plain colours, with check lining and button front, collar and cuff. And if you’re in the UK, you really need a raincoat.

Available online, you can pick it up for £59.99.

Peter Max Cushions

164First things first.  We realise that £150 is a lot of money to pay for one cushion.

But this cushion is rather special, featuring a print by Peter Max, a leading exponent of psychedelic design in America. So it more than just a cushion, it’s a piece of art too! 20th Century Marks has four Peter Max cushions, each priced £150. Each one has a different design, but all have the wild colours and dreamy cartoon imagery, you would expect from sixties psychedelic art.

If you can be persuaded to part with your money, visit the 20th Century Marks website to see the set.
