Space Invaders hoodies

Invaders_hoodies

If you’re going to wear a hoodie, you might as well wear an interesting one – like one of these Space Invaders hoodies.

These unisex items are available in two styles – with large or small aliens and in colour choices for the latter. And they’re in short supply – only available via The Cool Hunter in Australia and in limited numbers per size.

If you want one, they’ll set you back $140 (Australian) plus postage to our country – unless that’s Australia, where it is free.

Yo-Yo Floor Lamp

Yoyo_mFollowing the Blackboard Coffee table, here is another product that will transport you back to childhood – the Yo-Yo Floor Lamp by Elmar Flototto.

In the shape of a giant yo-yo, the lamp has a long cable in place of the string, which makes it easy to move around the room. Apparently, it can also be used outdoors or lay flat to be used as an occasional table. However, it probably isn’t advisable to attempt any real yo-yo tricks with it!

Its available to buy from Questo Design, priced approximately £160.

Rachel Mount retro cake sculptures

Retrocake2

Cake artist? Is there such a thing? Well, yes there is and heading the field is Rachel Mount, who does a nice line in retro designs.

She’s been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and Sothebys, not to mention featuring in numerous style magazines and A-listers’ parties. But that doesn’t mean she can’t make you something special, like one of the vintage 1950s handbag cakes above or the surfer girls cake after the turn.

Check out Rachel’s website for more images and information, then check your bank account. Prices start from £300 but will undoubtedly rise significantly for more elaborate work.

Eames surfboard-like Elliptical table

Elliptical_table_rodbase

We haven’t done any Eames for a while, so a good time to featured this reissued Eames Elliptical table from Vitra.

It’s also known as the surfboard table because…well…it looks like a surfboard. It’s actually a long coffee table, designed back in 1951 and consisting of a chromed rod base and a laminate top in a choice of black or white.

Certainly not cheap at between £1,135 and £1,305, but it is a timeless piece and one that will get our visitors talking.

Panasonic Toot-a-Loop Radio

TootaloopRadio has evolved enormously in recent years with the advent of digital radio in its various forms. Back in the 1970s, Panasonic introduced an innovation of its own – the Toot-a-Loop Radio.

This strange-looking creation is a radio that can be twisted and wrapped around your wrist for listening on the move. It comes with a jack for a mono earplug for personal use. As it is only picks up AM, the Toot-a-Loop offers a rather limited choice of stations by modern standards and I’m not all together convinced by its attraction as a fashion accessory, but nonetheless, it is a distinctive looking piece, very much of its time.

It was produced in various colours, including red, blue, yellow and white, and Manchester-based seller Haus has a stock of most colours with prices ranging from £45 to £75.
