Retro Retreat: The Roxbury Motel in the Catskills

Modpod
I’ll be honest and say my knowledge of US geography doesn’t extend beyond the major cities. But if I was over and feeling adventurous, I might make a point of visiting The Roxbury in the Catskills.

This particular retreat has a whole wing packed with themed rooms, based loosely around TV shows of the 60s and 70s. So enjoy a stay in the likes of The Shagadellic, George’s Spacepad, Genie’s Bottle, Upstairs Downstairs, Fred’s Lair, The Mod Pod, Golightly a Go-Go, The Partridge Nest, and Samantha’s Cloud. You can see an image of the Mod Pod here, but there’s slideshow images of all the theme rooms on the website.

Throw in a cool cocktail bar and some great scenery and it looks like a winner. Prices vary according to room, time of the week and season, but start at $90, rising to over $200 per night.

Simon Carter Target cufflinks

Simon_carter
I noticed recently that Simon Carter is now doing a fashion line that’s very late 60s influenced, but he’s still probably best know for his cufflinks and watches. Indeed, if you’re after that old favourite – the Target Cufflinks – he’s got a pair on sale right now.

Just as you’d imagine – enamel target design with silver metallic clip. But as he’s a man with a reputation in the field, you can be sure they’re well made.

Available online at his website, they retail for £19.95.

It costs just £5.60, so is a cheap way to add a bit of American diner style to your home and it makes a change from the now ubiquitous tomato-shaped ketchup bottles. Straws are supplied, but you’ll have to find your own favourite classic soda to slurp.
