Tretchikoff Chinese Girl print returns

Tretchikoff A few years back, you couldn’t give a Tretchikoff Chinese Girl print away. They were in every junk shop you entered, a product of it being the bestselling print of all time – hanging on the walls of every other house in the 60s and early 70s.

But tastes changed and the Chinese Girl was ditched by just about everyone as the 70s came to a close. But it didn’t go for good – collectors have been snapping them up over the last few years as the market for this kitsch classic grew. And with supply drying up, it’s no surprise to see Vladamir Tretchikoff’s most famous work go back into production.

It’s available exclusively through Four Blank Walls, which has a license to reproduce this image onto either Canvas Wallhangings or Perspex Wall Mounts. Prices start at £105 – somewhat more than we paid for ours, but I’m guessing the new ones will not have the same tobacco stains as our 60s cast-off.

Robert Indiana-style Worktop Saver

Indiana_worktop Robert Indiana’s LOVE image is a pop art classic, designed for the Museum of Modern Art in 1964 for a Christmas card design, then followed as a print, postage stamp and sculpture. In fact we’ve even featured a mirror using the design. Well, Joseph Joseph have now ‘borrowed’ the design for a Robert Indiana-style Worktop Saver.

Obviously this is for the kitchen, so the wording has changed, with LOVE being replaced by COOK. It’s still unmistakably Indiana though, with the added bonus of being a hygienic odour and stain resistant work surface for food preparation and a heat resistant trivet withstanding temperatures up to 280ºC.

Available for a very reasonable £12.

Globetrotter Domino limited edition vintage luggage

20ltd_luggage We have covered Globetrotter luggage previously – it’s a design classic and the best you can buy. Past users have included Winston Churchill and Sir Edmund Hilary (who used them on his Everest expedition), while current users include The Queen. In fact, even James Bond uses Globetrotter in the original Ian Fleming novels.

It might not be cheap, but it is exclusive. And if you want to be even more exclusive, you need to own this Globetrotter Domino limited edition vintage luggage. There’s just 20 of them being made, 10 of the 30-inch suitcases and 10 of the 21-inch trolley cases. In black with chrome detailing, they consist of an ash wood frame that’s covered with a super-strength vulcan fibre material – with a composition that’s a company secret.

If you want one, they retail for £850 and £670 respectively. And they’re likely to sell out quickly.

Schwinn Cruiser Deluxe 7 bicycle

Schwinn_cruiser

Schwinn certainly make some interesting bicycles, including a nice Chopper variation and indeed models that look incredibly close to the chopper-style motorbikes seen in Easy Rider. But right now, I’m loving the Schwinn Cruiser Deluxe 7 bicycle.

It’s very much the traditonal bike – with a twist. There’s the 18-inch frame size, 26-inch wheels, front and rear brakes plus seven-speed Shimano gears. But it’s also got the looks of a vintage motorbike, right down to the mini ‘petrol tank’ panel and built-in headlight.

Great for nipping round town and looking the part, you can pick one up for £399.

Magno all-wood 70s-style radio

Magno_wood_radio This might look like a portable radio from the 70s, but it’s actually a very modern piece of design from Singgih Kartono – the Magno radio.

Clever because it’s made almost entirely out of wood – even the knobs, handle and antenna topper. Obviously the inside isn’t wood, but you get the idea. It picks up AM and FM stations, runs off AA batteries and all in all, just looks incredibly stylish.

The design comes from Indonesia, but it is for sale online via Japanese retailers for the equivalent of around £75, which sounds like great value to me.
