New Balance Joy Division trainers

Newbalance_joydivison_3

Is that the sound of Ian Curtis spinning like a top in his grave? Probably, with the introduction of these New Balance Joy Division trainers.

In terms of detail, they’ve got that. Based around the Unknown Pleasures album (which essentially means a Peter Saville design), the sole uses the same artwork as the album cover, as does the tongue, with the back of the shoe featuring the original catalogue number – FACT 10.

But even if you buy into the concept of a Joy Division trainer, I’m sure they could have done something more stylish. Have you seen an uglier shape of shoe?

No news of a release date or price as yet.

Che Guevara rug

Che_rug
Over the weekend, we featured the Audrey Hepburn rug from Wovenground. Well, if that wasn’t to your taste, there’s now a more radical addition to the range – the Che Guevara rug.

Like the Audrey rug, it is made ethically and hand-tufted in India from New Zealand wool and can be used on the floor or as wall art. As you would expect, it’s in red with black design, along with the gold beret star.

Available as a special order online, it retails for £315.

Joan Miró art cushions

Miro_cushions

Guaranteed to add some colour to your sofa – this range of Joan Miró-inspired art cushions.

The key word there is "inspired" – these aren’t copies of any particular piece of Miró work, but anyone familiar with the artist’s individual style from the 1920s will presume they are.

Made from 100 per cent wool stitching onto a 100 per cent cotton base, each one measures 45cm square. And they’re available to buy online, priced at £35 each.

Duffer of St George tennis bomber jacket

Duffer_tennis
Duffer of St George
has been more "miss" than "hit" of late, but I’m very much liking the look of this classic tennis bomber jacket.

Available in the blue pictured or in an off-white, it’s a cotton and nylon mix, with two front pockets, contrasting striped (and elasticated) collar and cuffs and a small Duffer "D" logo.

A bit of a timeless classic and ideal for spring/summer, it retails for around £65.

Officially-licensed Vespa mugs

Vespa_mugs
Piaggio seems to throw most of its money and energy marketing its modern variations of the scooter these days. But when it comes to merchandising, it’s always about heritage. And that includes these officially-licensed Vespa mugs.

Like all mugs, there’s not a great deal you can comment on, with the exception of the design. And these pass the test, with a choice of the the more straightforward Vespa logo on blue background or the classic scooter on a check background with red detailing.

Whichever one you choose, it will set you back £5.50.

Build your own battery-powered Arco Lamp

Colette
Achille Castiglioni’s Arco Lamp is an iconic design – and certainly not cheap to buy. So how about building your own? You can with this Designer Emulation Kit by Mark McKenna for Emulate.

The Aroc is one of three designs available in the kit, the others are Ingo Maurer’s Lucellino and Richard Sapper’s Tizio. All come in kit form (not unlike an Airfix kit). Snap out the parts, put them together, then power them up with a battery. Before you know it, you have a desk-sized design classic.

You can pick up the kit online from Colette, priced at 40 Euros (around £27).
