Verner Panton Geometri rug

Geometri_rug
Is Panton’s Geometri design the most famous textile design in the world? It’s certainly one of the most recognisable – and if you shell out for a Verner Panton Geometri rug, your friends and neighbours will know you’ve spent some serious cash.

The design was created by Panton for the Hotel Astoria in Trondheim, where it orignally covered the floor, walls and ceilings. This example, made under license by Vitra and from hand-tufted wool, isn’t going to cover that kind of area at 225cm x  225cm, but it is going to add a wow factor to your living room.

The one drawback is the price – £3626.

David Linley St Moritz chair

Linley_moritz

According to the blurb on the David Linley website, the St Moritz chair gets its name from the "sweeping lines of the ski tracks on the curving slopes". And it almost certainly gets a hefty dose of inspiration from classic design from the late 50s/early 60s.

This occasional chair has concave arms and seat, with support from a grey steel frame. And it’s comfortable – thanks to 288 individual micro springs, which should also help to keep the shape. There’s also polished brass detailing on the end of the walnut arms and on the feet to protect hard floor surfaces.

Available to order online, prices start at £1750.

Mods birthday card

Mods_card
Does the image look familiar? Well, it will do it you own the Mods book by Richard Barnes (an essential buy for anyone with an interest in the 1960s mod scene). And it’s been reproduced here for this Mods birthday card.

I encountered it at the weekend in a shop in a small Lancashire town (Ramsbottom if you must know) and it’s made by a company called Pigment Productions. As well as the front cover image of a group of Mods in 1964, there’s a small target logo on the back and a brief birthday message inside.

You’ll probably need to check with the company for a local retailer – and if you do, expect to pay around £1.60.

Ikea PS Lomsk – child’s Ball Chair

Ikea_lomsk
Another take on the Ball Chair – following from on from the Ball Chair with speakers comes the Ikea PS Lomsk – a circular seat aimed very much at children.

Designed by Monika Mulder, it’s made of reinforced plastic, with a fabric hood that makes an ideal place for a child to hide (but thin enough to let in the light). And to add to the fun, it even spins round.

Sized at 59cm (w) x 62cm (d) x 75cm (h), it probably needs a cushion for comfort – but with the chair retailing for just £34.90, you should be able to afford one.
