Barbican stool

You've got your Barbican sofa. Complete the look with the accompanying Barbican stool from John Lewis.

It shares the same mid-century influence as the sofa, down to its wooden splayed legs. Although there is a leather version available, pictured is the model with a pea green fabric base. The brightly pattern 1960s-esque cushion comes courtesy of Andrew Martin. Put this next to your sofa and you'll be sitting pretty.

The stool costs £499.

Barbican

Another retro gem from the high street, this John Lewis Barbican leather sofa, which is available in a medium or a large size, depending on your living room size/needs.

We love the curves, we love the angled legs and we also love that pleated back. That frame is made of oak, while the upholstery is in a neutral-coloured Prescott hide – two Andrew Martin fabric scatter cushions offering a bit of contrast for free.

If you want one, the company is taking pre-orders now, with prices starting at £1,400.

Mod summer

With snow over much of the UK, those dreaming of bright blue skies should take a look at this Modernist London card pack by Stefi Orazi. It's like the Modernist Christmas cards which we featured a couple of years back but with the added novelty of the sun being out!

The set features six of the capital's modern icons: the BT Tower, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Golden Lane Estate, Isokon building along with the K8 Phone box, each illustrated in Stefi Orazi's distinctive style. Envelopes are provided so it's easy to spread a little sunshine.

The pack costs £12

Barbican Towers triptych from Stefi Orazi

Barbican triptych

If you read this site regularly, you may be able to recognise the artist behind this distinctive depiction of the Barbican towers. They are the work of Stefi Orazi whose Barbican cards we've featured previously as well as the slightly more festive Modernist Britain Christmas cards

The silk-screen shows the three tall towers that are part of the Barbican Estate in London: the romantically named Cromwell, Shakespeare and Lauderdale towers. All were built in the 1970s and are some of London's tallest residential buildings. Each tower gets their own panel to make up the triptych and the height and distinctive architecture of the towers certainly makes for a dramatic piece of artwork.

If you like this piece move quickly as it's a limited edition of just 40. The price is £195 for an unnumbered set of the three.
