eBay watch: 1958 Renault Dauphine car in original condition

Ren1

At first glance, you might think this is one of the retro Nissan reissues like the Figaro or the Pao, but this is far older and out of France – the Renault Dauphine.

It dates back to 1958 and literally screams the era, not least because it looks largely unchanged since first hitting the road. It might well have been thrown back in time. Its amazing looks are perhaps down to it being dry stored in France for the last 30 years. Not just about the  looks either, with the floor and chassis in 'excellent condition' and the 947c engine in 'perfect mechanical order'. Apparently 'everything works', according to the seller.

Things to note are it being left-hand drive, a tear being present on the driver's seat and a need for a 'very light respray' due to some blemishes on the bodywork. Not bad for 53 years. There is interest in it, but the price right now is still only £1,414.95. See the dashboard over the page or see the listing for a pile of images and more details.

Shuffle Side Table by Mia Hamborg

Mia_hamborg_shuffle_table_yu9q
This year Heal's celebrates 60 years of bringing us the pioneering Scandinavian design that we've come to love them for. To commemorate, this autumn they're treating us with a whole new brood of designers with concepts firmly rooted in the traditions of the modernist era.

This unique Shuffle Side Table by new Heal's designer Mia Hamborg is a real highlight of the Autumn/Winter collection. The piece is inspired by Nordic wooden turning traditions and is given a contemporary twist with the mid century-style colour palate. However, the most innovative feature is that you can actually take the table apart and rebuild the modular pieces in which ever order you'd like. It's a truly original piece that will no doubt become a modern classic.

The Shuffle Side Table is £449 from Heal's. See the website for more details.

eBay watch: Large 1950s midcentury-style coffee table

Mid_table

Nice design and right now, a nice price for this large 1950s midcentury-style coffee table.

According to the seller, it's 'probably' made of blond oak, with a 'black glas' top and those four angled legs. The whole thing about 100cm wide and 53cm tall.

Condition is said to be 'excellent original', with only light wear, mostly to the legs. The top has 'very light wear' only. If you fancy it in our living room, the current price is £9.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury Grundig radiogram

Grun1

Yes, there are a number of old audio systems on eBay right now, but I'll wager there's nothing else like this Grundig radiogram.

In terms of design alone, it's a stunning piece of furniture. Out of the 1950s and offering up some cool midcentury style, it looks immaculate, despite pushing 60 years old. Check out the plethora of images on the site to see it close up – we can hardly see a mark.

It's also (just as importantly) in full working order, the radio and the record player, which you'll find by pulling down the cabinet just above the speaker. You can see that in action over the page. Oh yes, you can also wire up your modern-day electronics to it – that's also shown in action on the site listing. Downside? The price, with the seller asking £840, although you can make an offer.

Red Leopard Print Shift Dress from Topshop

Redleopard

One of the most enduringly appealing aspects of mid-20th century womenswear was the ability to cover everything up and still ooze sex appeal. Fifties inspired looks arguably capture this mood best, with items like this Red Leopard Shift Dress from Topshop displaying that sexy sophistication.

The shift dress shape is simplistic, tailored to create a defined waist and accentuated hips. While a high neckline and knee-length skirt cover up, the use of a racy red leopard print taps into the pin-up aesthetic to create instant retro appeal.

It's available now from Topshop's Edited collection for £46.
