Morrissey Dining chairs from Marks and Spencer

Morrissey dining

From the same range as the Fjord chair we featured a few weeks ago, these Morrissey dining chairs are another high street highlight, courtesy of Marks and Spencer

Like the armchair, these chairs have got a mid-century, Scandinavian feel. Made from elm veneer, their tapered legs, and dark seats add to their classic feel. M&S are also selling a variation on these chairs, complete with arms for a slightly different take on the look.

A pair of the chairs will cost you £379.

Pac-Man Moneybox

Pac

You can't beat a bit of 80s-style novelty, which is essentially what this Pac-Man Moneybox is.

yes, not content with gobbling up dots on a screen, this Pac-Man will gobble up your cash too. Just drop some in and it plays an authentic Pac-Man sound as the money lands. Which means, as you have fun playing with it, you get to save some cash for a rainy day as a neat sideline.

You'll need 3x AAA batteries to power it and £14.99 to buy it.

eBay watch: Large 1960s Glo floor lamp

Glo

As a rule, we only tend to feature eBay items with a relatively low starting price, unless the item is particularly distinctive. We're classing this large 1960s Glo floor lamp as one of those exceptions.

It's a wonderful space age design, probably from the 60s, but possibly sneaking into the early 1970s. According to the seller, it was designed by 'H.TH.J.A. Busquet for Hala, Zeist, Netherlands', with the label still on the lamp.

Standing around 90cm tall, the ball rests on a lacquered steel tube stand, with all the electrics said to have been checked and in 'perfect working order'. Condition is apparently 'wonderful' too. £339 is the price – not cheap, but we don't think you'll see another for some time.

Exchange Storage Bench by Alex Bradley for Heal’s Discovers

Exchangeseat
Until I saw this Exchange Storage Bench, I didn’t realise that this is exactly what my home is missing – a stylish place to perch while I make my weekly phone call to my mother.

Designer Alex Bradley has taken his inspiration from the 1950s telephone seat, both in the idea and the form with its midcentury style splayed legs. As well as being a seat and telephone table, it offers an additional piece of storage as the seat lifts up and the side section has a shelf for books or magazines.

It costs £795 from Heal’s.

Celia Birtwell book by Celia Birtwell and Dominic Lutyens

Birtwell

Interestingly, no one has written a book on Celia Birtwell, so it's about time one turned up. Which happens to be this Celia Birtwell book by Celia Birtwell and Dominic Lutyens.

Part life story, part feature on her work, Celia Birtwell features personal photographs and sketches of Celia, her family and friends, especially from her 'bohemian' life in the 1960s and 70s and images from her long association with David Hockney as both friend and muse. Of course, the flipside is Birtwell the designer, with the book also offering up a multitude of examples of her fashion and home fabrics.

Quadrille publishes the 208-page book in hardback from 3rd October 2011, with Amazon doing discounted pre-orders for £20.99. Also, look out for Celia Birtwell: In Conversation at the V&A, which takes place on Friday 23rd September. Who knows…you might get a signed copy on the night.

Vitra Hang It All by Charles and Ray Eames – walnut and basic dark special edition

Walnut

There was a similar special edition out in the US a couple of years back, but due to rights issues, it never made it to the UK. Not to worry, the walnut and basic dark special edition Vitra Hang It All by Charles and Ray Eames is now available in the UK, should you want a variation on the classic theme.

You can still buy the original 1953 midcentury design classic if you wish, but this is a more subdued limited edition, the plastic coated steel frame going darker, while the coloured balls have been replaced with wooden balls in walnut. Slightly more 'grown up' if you like.

Get one while you can, £182 is the price.
