Jo Malone collector’s edition David Hicks candles

Collectors-edition-david-hicks-candles
Luxury scented candles don’t frequently feature on Retro To Go. However, this new range of collectors edition candles from Jo Malone are worth a mention because they feature some of the distinctive designs of David Hicks

Three different designs have been matched up to Jo Malone candles. The geometric pattern of Hick’s Riviera is the perfect zingy match to the lime basil and mandarin scented candle, while the opulent Herbert’s Carnation design has been paired up with the rich Pomegranate Noir scent. Finally, Hick’s Hicksonian – made up of joined H’s – decorates the red roses candle.

They certainly look good so let’s hope the scent also helps justify the £38 price tag for each candle.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle

Frem

When I'm looking for interesting eBay finds, I try and look for items that have low starting prices, but occasionally, quality wins out at a high price. Which brings me to this 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle.

It's timeless. Designed in 1953 (with this one dating from around 1960), this Scandinavian design would fit effortlessly into most modern-day homes. Clever design too, with the chairs integrating perfectly into the the table to save space, while a quick fold turns the table into a six-seater,

Made of Burmese oak and described as being in 'very good original condition', it's up at £895.

Revival Electric Kettle

Pt1111lb
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to retro kettles with great designs by the likes of Alessi and Delonghi now joined by this Revival Electric Kettle by Present Time.

It has a distinctive shape (possibly 1970s style) and combines chrome with bright coloured plastic for the handle, lid and base. Whilst the shape is decidedly retro, the kettle has the best of modern convenience in being cordless.

It is available with a choice of bright blue or lime green finishes from Our Green, priced £59. If you would prefer it in red or pink, you can buy it from No Brand via Amazon, for the same price.

Mathmos Fireflow Tea-light Lava Lamp

FIREFLOW
Mathmos Fireflow Tea-light Lava Lamp is a twist on the classic lava lamp design.

It still has the iconic rocket shape, but rather than being powered by mains or battery, the lava is heated up by a simple little tea-light. It takes about 20 minutes for the lava to warm up and get moving, but one tea-light is enough to power the lamp for 3 hours. The lamp is available with a choice of blue, pink or turquoise lava in clear liquid and costs just under £30.
