eBay watch: Gino Valle-designed Solari Udine Cifra 6 1960s flip clock

Valle

An iconic and influential design – yet this Solari Cifra 6 flip clock is currently on offer on eBay for just 99 pence.

The clock was designed in 1965 by Gino Valle, one of a series of similar clocks, this being the largest in that series. In terms of features, it's good for going on your wall or on a table (stand included), with mains power keeping those silkscreen printed digits ticking over. There's also a cream and white plastic case, plus a clear acrylic front.

It's not a perfect example – there are a few signs of age and missing a couple of screws (which are easily replaced). But that shouldn't put you off too much – this is a sought-after design and at retail, they tend to sell for fairly high prices.

Zeitfrei Adidas cycling shoes for Bianchi

Bianchi

Big thanks to David Doesburg for flagging up this rather niche Adidas design out of Italy – the Zeitfrei Adidas cycling shoes for Bianchi.

It's a cross between a trainer and a plimsoll, complete with the vintage-style charm of the latter. But it is created for a purpose – light and with sufficient grip for street cycling.

The design is more Bianchi than Adi, but if you look closely, you'll still see those famous three stripes. Only available (as far as we know) from Bianchi direct, a pair sells from 108 Euros.

Classic World Cup football shirts of tournaments past at Toffs

Toffs_1
Don’t know about you, but we much prefer the classic football shirts of days gone by to the super-thin, synthetic numbers of the modern-era. Just as well you can still buy classic World Cup shirts at Toffs.

Of course you can buy an England 1966 shirt, a Brazil 1970 (above), a Holland 1974, an Argentina 1986 or an Italia 1982 track top. Indeed, you can pick up every ‘big name’ team from just about every eras. But you can also pick up some of the more niche shirts of past and current World Cup participants too – like the USA 1950 shirt, also pictured above.

Or to be really niche, check out a 1960s Japan football shirt over the page, as well as the shirt worn by Australia in their first World Cup in 1975. Most prices are around the £34.99 mark, but start at £19.99. Check out the full range at the site.

eBay watch: 1960s Design Italiano book

Design

Interesting reference book on eBay right now, but you'll have to be quick – Design Italiano only has a day or so to go.

Printed back in 1968, it's described as 'one of the most important Italian mid-century furniture design references', with 204 pages packed with illustrations of the work of  Joe Colombo, Franco Albini, Cini Boeri, Frattini, Castoglioni and anyone else worth mentioning, all pulled together  under the design and art direction of Bruno Munari.

The book is in 'very good condition' and is up for grabs right now on eBay for £12.50. If you're a collector, it's a must.

eBay watch: 1972 Fiat 500

Fiat500

It's back on the market in a modern form, but nothing compares to the charm of an original Fiat 500. This being a particularly fine example.

Dating back to 1972 and with just under 53,000 miles on the clock (which is nothing), the car has been on the receiving end of plenty of work, including new suspension swinging arms, new brakes, wheel bearings, king pins and bushes, plus new track rods, steering rods and a new sun roof. The interior, thankfully, is still in original condition.

Talking of condition, the seller says the body work in places needs a 'little attention but nothing to affect MOT', so bear that in mind. It's currently on eBay for £3,500.

Lamponi introduces new range of Lambretta table lamps

Lam1

You might have seen the Vespa lamps and a Lambretta lamp in the past, but now Lamponi has just finished a new set of handmade Lambretta table lamps.

Presumably following the same principle of the past, the lamps mix salvaged old parts with new pieces in the style of vintage Lambrettas to produce something eye-catching, but above all, unique as each item is craftsman made, right down to the polishing and painting.

One of the new lights is pictured above, the other over the page. A talking point for sure, but one that comes at a price – for all that time and effort, you'll be looking at anything from £800. Get in touch with the Italian designer for a definite price and turnaround time.
